Klopp was frightened of Traore when we played Liverpool at the Riverside. At times they had three and four men on him. He has improved even more at Wolves and he has a better squad of players to play with.

People just donít seem to get how good the business was that we did on Traore.
What did we pay for him, £6m? We took a punt on a player with raw talent that couldnít get a game at villa under several managers and as many said on here was Had no end product. At the time having a buyout clause for 3x what we paid was a great idea as he could have quite easily been a flop for us as he had been elsewhere. As it turns out he is starting to look the business and now ppl are slagging is off for not having a sell on clause....ffs you canít have it both ways, you can have a buyout or a sell on....you canít have both!

Hindsight is a wonderful thing!

Jonny when you have watched football for a long time, you know class and talent when you see it.
Even in his early days you could see that this lad would be worth 50 million plus one day.
Itís called intuition and foresight.
18 million should not have bought his left leg.

Jonny that makes no sense

Taking a risk is exactly why there should have been a sell on clause. You take a gamble, if it doesnít pay off youíve lost 6m. It pays off heís gone. The buy out clause had no benefit as no one would have bought him if he flopped

This time I think it was as easy as FM, I said a million times during that prem season that his touch and control of the ball at that speed is not something you can coach. There is no hindsight about this, it was obvious he was going to be what he has become. Plus his crossing back then wasnt even that bad, go and watch the highlights.

His problem was always decision making, the sprint coach said that telling Adama to slow down helped a lot.

Youíre dammed if you do and dammed if you donít. I watched home week after week and loved watching him, I still watch out for him now when wolves play and was gutted when he left us. Everyone has seen that there was a real talent n there , but until recently nobody thought he could do it consistently.
IHats off to the lad, he has worked hard and aisvery humble and deserves everything he gets, I just really hope that he doesnít come up against some Doyle that intentionally takes him out and does him a nasty injury

listened to radio 5 commentary, he was still being criticized for making bad decisions. shooting from 35 yards when he was one on one and could beat the defender for pace. not getting in the box. not tracking back. but in possesion going forward he was brilliant.

So pleased for the kid. I've met him on a couple of occasions (very briefly) at Rockliffe and he came across as such a nice, humble lad and was brilliant with my kids (even giving them a couple of signed shirts the day he left for Wolves as I posted on here at the time).

It's funny reading old posts regarding Traore now because there was an awful lot of Boro fans who didn't rate him at all in the early days. Personally I thought he was a class act from the minute I saw him come off the bench against Spurs. He made mistakes of course he did,he was a kid. Seeing a lad wearing a Boro shirt who would dribble past 5 or 6 top premier league players in an instant is not something you see every day.

He was managed terribly by Karanka and even worse under Monk. It's criminal we had a lad as good as him at our disposal and we didn't use him half as much as we should have. I honestly believe he could have been the difference in staying up in the premier league season, had he been given a run of games. Pulis can take a lot of credit for his management of Adama and he saw his unbelievable potential from day one.

Unfortunately for Wolves, he's now far too good for them and needs to be playing for a top team and in the Champions League.

He is 24 on the 25th of January. Still a couple of years off his peak, if he moves to a world class team this summer, In 2-3 years time he could be recognised as the best player in the world! Yeah it's annoying in hindsight we only got £18m and no sell on clause, but we should be happy that we had him as a player and saw a world class player in Boro shirt, its been a long time since we could say that.

"don't think relegation or not is relevant"

Iirc the release clause only took effect when we got relegated. Had we stayed in the Premiership we could have negotiated whatever sale price we wanted.

Either way, this criticism is a bit strange. For all but half a season, Adams hardly played. Had Monk or Karanka stayed in charge, I'm not sure we'd have even got our £6 million back for him.

Both Barcelona and Villa didnt put any clauses in his contract and both though he was surplus to requirements and maybe unable to reach his potential . Our Coaching staff put great work into him and helped develop him . Congratulations to Boro making 300% on him . Good luck to him and hopefully he has a injury free career:-D we can say to our future children he did play for the MIGHTY BORO :-D

There's a danger FMTTM can get carried away about Adama. He's always been a phenomenon as an athlete. He's now becoming a top footballer too.

However, don't make out like he's some type of Messi player. At 24 the really top players had already achieved a lot.

"Terrible business not putting a sell on clause" is the new "Gibbo's divorce settlement" and "Mark Viduka medical retirement" rolled into one special stupid quote.

No matter how many times people point out that once a Release Clause has been triggered you do not have a negotiating position. That is the price sticker on the goods, pay it and walk out of the shop.

Look at Stirling if you want a glimpse of what Adama could become if he makes the right move.

Both have had their critics regarding finishing, decision making etc, but Stirling is now arguably one of the best players in the world. If someone like Pep could perform the same transformation on Adama then you'd be looking at an absolute monster. Traore is already unbelievably quick and unbelievably strong so coaching him to add that goal scoring instinct to his game would make him almost unstoppable.

Epictetus:

ďNothing important comes into being overnight; even grapes and figs need time to ripen. If you say that you want a fig now, I will tell you to be patient. First, you must allow the tree to flower, then put forth fruit; then you have to wait until the fruit is ripe. So if the fruit of a fig tree is not brought to maturity instantly or in an hour, how do you expect the human mind to come to fruition, so quickly and easily?Ē

Demonstrably wrong. A number of people at work who watch football raving about him. Klopp double marking and triple marking him to shut him out. Guardiola reportedly keen. Pundits on Sky and MOTD talking about him.

We were lucky to see him in a Boro shirt and quite a lot of us will always have a soft spot for him it almost feels like we watched him grow up in front of us.

On the original point, I'm not sure Liverpool are a "top defence" they are very very good but they tend as much to outscore teams as grind out 1-0s, compared to arsenal's "Invincibles" they are positively leaky.

Yup, you're bang right. It was just my feeling that when pressed like Wolves did they don't look as secure as (for example) the arsenal team of yore. As you say they defend as a team as soon as possession is ceded.

Traore is virtually unplayable at times, especially for any defender who is left one to one with him. All he has to do is knock the ball past them, run onto it and nobody is catching him.

On his day he was unplayable when he played for us but he was inconsistent. Now he seems to be doing it on a consistent basis and the end product is there. He has the potential to become world class and I don't think he's too far away.

"On his day he was unplayable when he played for us but he was inconsistent."

Was he inconsistent though? He was never trusted in the side long enough to become consistent. It's no coincidence that as soon as he nailed down his place in the team he improved dramatically. It was blatantly obvious from the start what he was capable of, but he just played a few games here, and a few substitute appearances there, and would then be dropped again.

Traore just needed the right coaching and the chance to mature. His current coach must be among the best in the world.

Look at how Nuno plays him. Different depending on the opposition and sometimes switches him during the game.

I think Traore would be mad to leave Wolves at the moment. You couldn't guarantee that a future coach would use him the right way.

And with another season on his contract at Wolves, who knows where Nuno will take them.
