At home to Man City, FAC 3rd round replay & the start of a good FAC run

Me & my younger brother in the boysend with our dad stood infront of us seperated by a wall
I know it was coluka too, if you're reading this mate

I remember vividly the snow around the touchline pushed up against the advertising boards, the orange ball, which was a new one for us, IIRC, Man City in their iconic white strip
Just under 40k at the game

Davey Mills had put Boro infront in the 1st game the previous Saturday, Franny Lee equalised with 11 minutes remaining falling over his boot laces & awarded a penalty, which he greatly converted

Boro winning the replay 1-0 courtesy of a John Hickton goal at the holgate end

Stans team

Jim Platt - 1st FAC home game
John Craggs - 1st FAC home game
Gordon Jones
Willie Maddren
Stuey Boam - 1st FAC home match
Bill Gates
Nobby Stiles - 1st FAC home match
Eric McMordie
David Mills - Scored v City on his FAC debut
John Hickton - Big John's 8th Boro FAC goal
Derek Downing
Sub
Joe Laidlaw

A memory to cherish Erimus, I wonder for children today if their first FA cup match would be so special.

I was at university in London at the time. I finished uni on Tuesday morning and set off to hitch home. Got home about 6 in Linthorpe and called in at home.

Went to match, great result and then set off back to London. Got back in time for lectures at 9.30 next morning.

THOSE were the days.
