A young version of Gestede at his best .
Put himself about , will be decent with games .[^]

It's weird how we fans have such varying opinions from watching the same games. I personally thought he was poor but I've seen on Facebook others saying he was decent. He did have a good turn and shot but other than that I don't recall him bringing anything else to the team.

He is no where match fit but did ok against a top premiership team. He looks like he has a good turn and trick in him in the box. Need to get the ball to his feet and I'm sure he will get a few in the champo with a run in the team

He was a handful, not always easy on the eye but defenders won’t like playing against him which could create opportunities for others. Hasn’t had much game time this season and will get better. Thought he was ok.

Opinions certainly are odd.
Clicked on this post 100% certain it would be full of praise for the lad. Astounded to see some negativity and even a comparison to Rudy!! Mental.

I thought he was very good and showed a hell of a lot of promise for the future.

Similar to Fletcher but with a different haircut.
Big, bloke, strong as an ox.
Yet slow and tentative.
Beautiful combination for an artist.....but prefer my strikers to have a bit more attitude.

Should have brought Rudy on much sooner. The wind was blowing the ball all over the place and Sanchez was weak and kept misjudging the flight of the ball. The game was made for him.

Badonde, are you really saying that Fletcher is as strong as an ox?

Early signs are he’s a different level to Fletcher.

Fletcher is playing his best football for us but is still unbelievably weak and unimposing

I really liked him. Perhaps a little short of match fitness, but the Spurs defence certainly weren’t given an easy night. Not much he could do in the first half, given little service, but I thought he was a massive pest throughout the second. Some excellent skinning of the defenders at times.

One of those strikers who even if they didn’t score massive amounts (but I think he can), other players would score loads just by them being on the pitch. Bit like Heskey on a good day.

Lad plays one game and is written off - this board is pathetic

All you doubts do understand that we were playing Tottenham last night and he won't come up against international defenders every game he plays.

If he was lackluster against defenders who play week in week out for a team like Maccelsfield I'd understand the frustration, however he wasn't.

He was a nuisance to international defenders and that for me is positive, he could be really valuable to the team

He seemed to learn quite quickly that the feints and flicks he was doing weren't going to cut it against Vertonghen. Some of his long range passes were pretty impressive. As usual, the truth is neither great nor 5h1te, but will certainly get on much better against championship defences.

Strong, quick, direct and aggressive and can obviously play a bit too.

Looked very promising, but not a game where he couldn't be judged really, given how little of the ball he had and how much defending we did.

Of course it's very early days to dismiss Nmecha....but he seemed to have trouble standing up for first 45 mins!
As for Rudy, thought he was influential when he came on and helped in assist for Saville's goal. Reckon the "cards" need to find another avenue for their "craic".

Very poor?

What do some of you lot expect? Michael Owen, Wayne Rooney or Messi?

We're a lower half championship team, playing away at a top 6 prem side, that were recently in the champions league final, in an intimidating stadium. The player you're slating hasn't had 90 minutes this season and has represented England at every youth level to and including U21, and played 8 games for Germany's U21's.

There seems to be a lot of people that know about young players, that rate this lad, and his potential, and there's some on here that are either stupid, or think criticising players without context is "sound".

He didn't do loads, but I wouldn't expect him to, not with our supply, who we were playing, and the manager of the opposition.
One key thing I remember was when he turned the Spurs defender inside out before a great shot to the bottom corner, which was a cracking save to be fair. I've not seen a player do that for us, with that ability in ages.

I think he's gonna be a handful

I thought it was a mixed performance. From his first appearance he continues to look quite weak when up against a defender, falling over far to easily (and no foul given). His cut on to the opposite foot was good for the shot pulling a reasonable save. He does run off the ball well looking for space. Tough game for him to do well in. Fletcher looking better by the game though.

You can tell he’s not played a lot of football this season, he was sloppy a few times early on but then he grew into the game and put in a very good performance vs a top side. He’s only going to get better the more he plays and should look great vs Championship opposition rather than top Premier League sides.

There's been like 2 negative comments on the whole thread - the most negative being: "About 6'2" but unfortunately he is very poor although early days." Even the most negative comment is saying it's too early to judge. It seems some posters have to invent extreme positions so they can argue against them.

first time I've seen him was on TV last night.. unfair to judge on that performance as we were very poor first half - just way too deep & left the front 2 isolated.

I think he'll be fine for us in the Championship, though will need some good support play to get the best out of him as a little raw at present..

Myself and other posters complaining about people saying he's poor or whatever stemmed from the first reply calling him very poor, and the second comparing him to Gestede, who doesn't exactly have a great reputation on here. Effectively 2/3 at that point were not really lumping on the praise.

Effectively most will have read those two replies and thought "here we go again" and posted some reasoned context/ defence of the player.

Good to see that most backed him up afterwards [^]

Purely by the amount of game time he’s getting when he’s clearly not fully fit I think we’re checking him out for next season and will maybe extend his loan in the summer.

That said we apparently have a loan agreed for Troy parrott which got put on hold when Kane got injured, so who knows what we’re planning.

I thought he did well and was unlucky not to get a goal. He looks like another big strong mobile lad that has some nice touches, I'm sure he will cause defenders problems.

I'm looking forward too seeing what he is like once he is fully match sharp, fully match fit and settled into the team and it's style play.

It never ceases to amaze me how little football knowledge some of our fans have.

He didn't have too much quality ball to work with, but looked promising, showed good movement, was physically up to it, showed a decent touch. I think he could be a real handful for championship defenders.

Thought he did ok. He's got a bit of physicality and is reasonably quick.

He did well in the build up of his chance (cutting back and committing the CB) just didn't catch it right. He got better as the game went on.

He's hardly played for 4 months. He will get fitter and sharper with minutes. I'm not he will ever be 'prolific' after 40 odd games for PNE he scored 4 goals. That said 40 odd games says he was very much a first teamer in a decent champo side. He was apparently better coming off the wing in a 3 (says Alex Neil)

It's still early days for him and Roberts in terms of fitness and full match sharpness. It means they should be useful and fresh going into the 2nd half of this season[^]
