Would love this to happen.
Gibbo on the left, Fry on the right with Ayala in the middle.

Unfortunately got the feeling Ayala will be off this window.

TBF his uncle owns it. I saw Chris Kamara there once but he was just a guest as well.

Not saying it won't happen, but it could be nothing.

I hope we keep Jonny Howson there. Not being funny but if he played there instead of trying to be a goal scoring midfielder he would be playing in the premier league such as his performances.

If he's trying to be a goalscoring midfielder then he's pretty poor at it. He's decent at the back.

I dare see Randolph’s wages will cover his so when that’s wrapped up Gibson will be .

It’s a good move fir Burnley aswell as he needs to get match fit . Plus Gibson could end up permanent .

I don't think he will be signing for us either.

Perhaps there are some really cold benches at Rockcliffe that needed the attention of the best bench warmer in Burnley.

Was on the bench this weekend when Burnley suffered yet another defeat. Ben Mee and James Tarkowski seem to have the centre back roles nailed down but something will have to give eventually if they keep losing. This piece suggests he’s going nowhere

I know someone that was at a party at his house a couple of months ago and he said he’d like to come back. Didn’t say he was, just that he’d like to.

You would expect him to say that, but it doesn’t mean it’s going to happen.

I always wondered how long it be before his connection with the club's owner would become a heavy burden. To his great credit, he never allowed that to happen, through playing consistently well and also the teams progress to the PL helped.
If he came back, however, I think it would be pushing his/our luck. Things have changed.

I would think he will always have in his mind coming back at some point. I'd be happy to have him back for the 2nd half of the season, get some game time and then go back to Burnley and hopefully nail down a PL place over the next 5 years or so and then come back to finish his career here in the future.

It's all well and good the article saying that Burnley want the bulk of the fee back that they paid, but after you have to compare the player now against the player then.

Then - played very well for years without any injury problems. 15M quid was the right price then.

Now - Persistent injury problems, and not played any matches even when fit. Not worth anywhere near 15m.

We won't be paying £7m for anyone, and not for a very long time.

"nd hopefully nail down a PL place over the next 5 years or so"

Hate to say it but he's just simply not good enough to hold down a regular premier league place. All that talk previously about him getting into England squads etc was ridiculous, and more symptomatic of how bad England centre backs have been than anything else. Good luck to him, hope he proves me wrong, he's a thoroughly decent local lad and I wish him well, but championship, or possibly a newly promoted team with one eye on the season after is his level.

Fry sent to Hartlepool on loan to find his true level.
Perfect.

Fry is an England U-21 International. His true level is not Hartlepool.

He went to Burnley because they expected to lose one of their centre backs, they didn't.
I don't think there'll be much interest in either now or in the summer, so I think the only way Gibson gets a game is through injury to Mee or Tarkowski.

Be a great move for us this.

Think memories are soured a bit by his lack of action the last few years but he was superb for us. You can't buy the connection to the club that he has.

You could build a team around Gibson, Ayala and on current form, Howson.

It makes little sense for Burnley to loan him out, especially as you can't recall players outside a window any more.

If injuries/suspensions lead to insufficent cover at centre-back it could cost them their place in the Prem. It's not a risk worth taking just to save a proportion of his wages for a few months.

Sucks to be him (well, apart from the whole "earning millions doing nothing" side of it) but the gulf in finances between the leagues has grown so large that it's not just the big teams who are stockpiling players.

A young lad breaks into our side, from our Academy.
He represents England at every level up to full international.
He plays really well and seems popular with everyone attracting the interest of many big clubs. Then he gets injured.
On getting fit, he is put back in to play predominantly in a very unfamiliar left sided role and perhaps not unsurprisingly looks initially uncomfortable, before starting to look very good in the last couple of weeks.

Why would anybody take that and suggest his level is Hartlepool? It beggars belief.

I'm delighted we have Dael Fry and with Ayala, Howson and Friend shortly to return to play left CB, I'm not at all sure we need Ben Gibson to return at high cost.
I've nothing against Ben whatsoever and thought he did really well for us. If he returns then fine, but if we have limited funds from a FFP or whatever perspective, then I wouldn't spend it on him.

Absolutely right. If there's any money to spend, it shouldn't be spent on defenders.

Rather spend money on a permanent signing we can afford , keep and develop for years to come . Not on wages going in ben gibsons pocket for 5-6 month before he moves elsewhere after we help get his form and fitness back. Be realistic we cant buy him or afford his premier wages

Exactly, we've got 1 fit Centre Back who's not out of contract already, no need for more that.

if we can get Ayala signed and Gibson will trim his wage demands then it's a gamble worth taking. They were the stingiest centre-back pairing in the country for 2 or 3 seasons.

It's true that the way the game is going it is harder to justify selecting defenders with sub-standard distribution, but the primary responsibility is still to defend, and Gibbo is an excellent stopper. Moreover, he loves the Boro and would be a dressing-room leader and a galvanising force.

Imo, if he signs, a year down the line we'll wonder how we ever did without him.
