Can anyone settle an argument?

I was reading the gazette (I don't know why....) and in reference to our injuries Phil Talentless said
"At this rate of declining luck, Boro will end up repeating the legendary moment at Fulham in 2006 when they fielded an all-Academy team."

Is he right? I seem to remember Malcolm Christie played in that team - he wasn't from our academy was he? Or did he come through our academy and then move elsewhere before we bought him back?

Just curious... and arguing with a lad at work about it.

Cheers

Josh Walker replaced Christie making it an academy team. It was the youngest in Premier League history. 15 of the 16 squad were academy players.

Cheers Bear, that makes sense now.

I knew it was mostly academy players but with Christie included as the odd one out then.

Ta.

At some point in the match after subs it was all academy but Christie did start and wasn't from the academy. Cooper came on at the end as well so even though he came through the youth team he had been to a few others between then and that match.

That was through choice, not because of injuries though.

Yes bear, nearly all local - one of my great days of pride as a Boro supporter.

And a lot of those players had decent careers too.

Ali Brownlee said that it was one of his proudest moments being able to commentate on The Boro at that particular match

I remember Cattermole gave the Captains armband to Cooper when he came on as a mark of respect.

Fun fact: It's still the most recent occurrence of an all English XI playing in the Premier League since Aston Villa in 1999.

Fun fact 2: Most media outlets now discredit this fact as James Morrison later went on to play for Scotland despite playing for the England youth teams at the time.
