"Would he do a job"

For me, it depends what "job" we want him to do.

Quick fix avoid relegation?
Long term rebuild?
Make us competitive in the championship?
Make us the great entertainers?

He could certainly do some of these jobs, but definitely not others.

So let's decide what the job is before we say whether or not he is the man for it.

Iím not a fan of Warnock but given the position we are in and the lack of plan to progress things then we need something, the football will be Pulis like but hopefully fans will be more understanding that the ends justifies the means.

Make us the great entertainers

Is that really in some people's minds and expectations of a new manager?
FFS we're Middlesbrough when the f*ck are fans going to get real.
Get us safe this season is all I ask then stabilise the year after and start building again with a bit of a plan.
People demanded entertainment after Pulis look where that has got us, some even did during and after Karanka, we need to accept the type of club we are.
Warnock would be a fantastic appointment at this stage, it wont be pretty but we should get results which is all that matters

I like Warnock but he is 71 year old . Would back him if he came in on a short term deal to keep us up .
Adkins would be a more long term choice for me
Or loan
Giovanni Van Bronckhorst from his role at Man City where he is doing very little , just getting used to the Man City way in case of Guardiola moving on ( which isn't likely soon ).
Maybe they would allow him to do a bit of management to keep him on his toes .
Win , win , no big salary as he is being paid by City , and they give him managerial experience in this country .
Any of the 3 would help Woodgate ATM , we need help .

Yes in a Venables type role.

But why would he want to work at 71?

I know he loves the game but surely he would rather retire than be in a bottom of the table scrap.

I also think JW should be given more time.

He was no ones first, second, or even third choice apart from maybe SG. But now he has the job he should be backed.

Should have had him instead of Monk, back when he'd turned Cardiff around (in a not too dissimilar position as us right now) but before he would have even dreamed of taking them up. He definitely would've come.
See also his work keeping Rotherham up.

I can't understand why anyone wouldn't have him right now.

The hone form has improved and while we got a grade A thumping v Leeds Iíd rather go with a younger mind and try to avoid relegation and with it keep faith in youth. This is a true story ....
I was lucky enough to go to the 2017 Champions league final (through work) in Cardiff - RM v Juve, Neil Warnock was on the speaker panel in the hopitality lounge (along with David James, Colin Hendry and John Hollins).
I managed to say hello and have a quick chat with him ( along with a selfie of course)... He was a very nice bloke and asked who my team was ... When I said Middlesbrough, he said - and I quote as well as i can recall - " God, I'd love to work for Steve Gibson, I like Boro and think you have good and knowledgable fans". Just said good stuff about us ( we had just been relegated). Made me think well of him.

So, a big fat YES from me - as JW is failing badly.

Not sure TBH - but any decision looks like a good one atm.

"So let's decide what the job is before we say whether or not he is the man for it."

Surely the job is still the same, manage the next 18 months while our high earners' contracts expire whilst doing as well as possible (Remaining in the current league a minimum) and then if there is potential there after this period, rebuild with a significant investment with the philosophy sold to us at the beginning of this season, (Probably a different manager to one struggling to keep us up)

Warnock probably fits this bill, Mick Mcarthy probably more so.

"Not sure how our overpaid fancy Dan's would cope with the brutality of a Warnock rollicking at half-time. They'd all be in tears!"

I was thinking exactly this when his name got mentioned, Some actually upset to tears some not even listening playing on their phones.

No.. not as manager..

I did think maybe as an experienced addition like Venables was for Robbo.. though that effectively showed Robbo was not up to being manager..

Woody has to sink or swim on his own.. an experienced coach would be a good place to start.. though that would sink Keane..

I have wrote several times I think Woody would benefit from a senior advisory figure. Woody is chief Coach and needs a Director of Football type.

The Senior management might see this as undesirable because this person may question their decisions or lack of them.

It will also cost some money of course, but improved performances and results will create money.
