Could we ever do a Leicester?

No bigger club than Boro but have really taken off.Meanwhile under the direction of Steve Gibson Boro are in serious decline. Is a shame to see it.[cr][cr][cr]

Leicester have extremely rich owners who nontheless have managed their players well.

Could we ever do a Leicester?
And 6 years ago Leicester fans were thinking ‘we could never become top three team”

Just like avoiding relegation under El Tel, no boro fan thought “we will get to a Euro final in 5 years”

Grow a pair, FFS

I think we did..
two cup finals
the UEFA cup final

Unfortunately the really bad decisions keep coming.Since Eindohven I can't say I have been impressed with the way Gibson has run our club.

3rd August 2013 at the Riverside was Boro 1 Leicester 2
Remember seeing it and there wasn't much between us - apart from one goal that is.

I remember about 7 years back we played Lecister in the championship how our paths have changed since with abit of ambition Gibson is now lacking

Not impossible you almost had it in the uefa cup years, but then Mclaren was not quite good enougth and then you made bad coaching choices.

But the academy model with the quality international players like Mendieta you had in the 2000's with the right coach could do wonders again.

It is very hard with the wealth and media power of the big four or five clubs.

"No bigger club than Boro but have really taken off"

They will land again: they will be relegated within 10 seasons.

However high they climb, they will have fans twisting on about not spending more to really push on to the next level.

When we played them in the Robson, McLaren years they were usually always underdogs, but even then they regularly turned us over.

Thus even as the big spenders we never quite had control of our destiny. Gibson in relative terms threw way more money at the team than most of the current crop of billionaires.

Gibson and many of our fans support the philosophy of throw a śhítload of money at it and hope some of it sticks.

Leicester remain a solid competitive force by quietly replacing Huth, Morgan, Fuchs, Kante, Mahrez with Evans, Soyuncu, Ricardo, Tielemans, Maddison without making a big hoo-hah about signings like Juninho, Ravanelli, Boksic, Mendieta, Negredo....even Assombalonga.

It’s nothing to do with being a ‘bigger club’ it’s do with having rich owners and good decision makers and a great recruitment team and a cracking manager. They have all that. We don’t.

Could we ever do a Leicester?
I think anyone could do a Leicester the first time round. Was a miracle, could happen to anyone. A completely random set of stars aligning with the brilliance out of nowhere of Kante, Mahrez and Vardy, and all the big clubs around them having horrible seasons.

What's really impressed and surprised me is how good a job Brendan is doing.

It's one thing to have a golden couple of years. A lot of us did it in the 2000s - us, Fulham in the UEFA Cup final, teams like Wigan and Bolton in the cups and Europe, earlier you look at Newcastle, we'll probably say the same about Spurs in three years.

It's another thing to stay at that level, or drop off a bit, then get back to it quickly.

Again it's a combination of an outstanding manager but mainly recruitment. How good have Soyuncu, Tielemans, Maddison been?

We tried it, we just tried it with Alves and Digard and Shawky.
