If he can play CB there is hope for my 67 year old dad to make it for Boro. Weak in the air, poor positional sense and despite what others say, rubbish with his feet. Shotton, Ayala and Friend would be my preferred back 3.

Add him to the list of "promising, but didn't quite materialise".

It's strange how none of these promising youngsters ever develop like some of the prospects you see at other clubs, despite us apparently having some of the best facilities. It seems that the vast majority hit a brick wall when they hit 20 years old.

Vast majority???

You mean every single one in the last 10 years?

Not every single one. Ben Gibson has made a decent career. Struggling to think of any others mind

I was on about 30 years, but yeah in 10 years what have we had?

Johnson was 20, 12 yeasrs ago, but he buggered off anyway, and turned into a paedo
Gibson - wasn't prem quality, went to the prem, then can't get in the weak Burnley team

They're either:
Really promising and not progressing, which is a coaching problem around 18-21.
Not promising, just have been identified wrong, so this would be a problem with the ability estimates of the U18 coaching.

Costing us goals and points every week atm, lucky it wasn't worse today. He's either out muscled, out of position or losing possession constantly.

Ben Gibsonís made a brilliant career, I wonít knock him heís a good player and a lovely lad, but heís not premiership quality, which is I guess what it takes to be truly classed as top notch and realising that potential?

Ben Gibson was our best player in our premier league season,he was definitely good enough then.

'promising but didn't quite materialise' is why we sold Colin Cooper. Stay patient.

What does Premier League quality mean? It is all about the manager finding a balance in the team. Steve Cook and Simon Francis spent all their careers kicking around the lower leagues, but have now made 120 plus games in the vaunted Premier League.
