50cc moped restricted removal

Arghhhhh ffs!

The young lad has turned 17 now and bought himself a 50cc Peugeot Speedfight 4 and now hes turned 17 he wants to remove the restrictor and keep up with his mates!

Does anyone know of any garages he can take it to get it removed?

This moped is his pride and joy and hes insured fully road legal and now hes 17, he wants to go a bit quicker.

Any advice would be appreciated. Cheers

It may be software restricted, in which case a dealer might be the only way.

If it's CDI restricted, an expensive new CDI would be required.

Buy a 125cc.

CDI? Please explain as YouTube etc provides no details at all.

Hes been to a dealer and they mentioned doing stuff to the exhaust and allsorts of stuff.

I always thought it was literally a nut or bolt or a washer or something simple!

He knows it's not going to blast the speed up but with him buying it brand new, hes wanting to keep it for a little longer, at least till hes done his driving lessons etc.

Capacitor discharge ignition

What age is the scooter? Most newer scooters are CDI or software restricted. A dealer should know which.

Its brand spanker. 19 plate. 50cc Peugeot speedfight 4.

If its cdi or software restricted, I'm taking it's an easier fix than the dealer that sold him the bike has told him.

Apparently he needs the exhaust looking at and other mechanical things tinkered with which didnt sit right with me.

Il do some more digging online now I know what cdi means etc and see what the crack is.

Cheers bud.

Software is the simplest but dealers still charge a premium for not very much. A new CDI could be quite expensive. A quick Google suggests Peugeots are software restricted. Insurance will certainly need to know if you do it. Also it isn't a moped any longer to V5 needs to be changed and road tax goes up.

If thatís what the dealer said itís likely you can remove the washers from exhaust manifold and variator.
A CDI can be picked up from eBay for about £30-£40.
Look for a bloke called Mark Savage on YouTube, he has loads of vids about scooters, the tax on the scooter wonít change as itís about £20 for anything less than 150 cc
