Given that most of us seem to expect that the result at QPR will finish "Middlesbrough nil", taking anything from the game would be a pleasant surprise.

What other results do you remember that have come as a surprise in a positive way?

Swansea City 0 Boro 5 is one that sticks in the mind.

Doing Aršenal in the FA Cup in 84 when we were supposed to be toast.
Papers were giving it what new Scottish signing Charlie Nicholas was going to do to us

arsenal 1 - 1 Boro, the first time boro visited the Emirates. I think it was 2006?
Woodgate was immense.

Great day out as the sun was out. Beers around Covent Garden before the game.

We had one shot on target.
April 2001 the Venables season.
We won the next away game 3-0 at Leicester too.
Some recovery that.

The Leeds 4-1 with two Wilko headers and Tommy Wright worldie wing play performance would take some beating.

Winning away on pens at old Trafford in the cup was a great night in front of massive away support.

"Man City 0 v 2 Boro in the cup under Aitor"

I disagree with the above, i don't see this as a shock result - as Boro are in fact Man city's bogey team, we have a good record over them - whenever i have been to Maine road or the Etihad, i have NEVER seen Boro been defeated

Having said that, 1976 at Maine Road was one of the all time most disappointing Boro results.

Remember when we beat Chelsea 3-0 in... about 2006, I think? They were at the peak of their powers around that time and we smashed them.

2-3 win at Old Trafford back in 1998 has got to be up there.

2-0 win over Liverpool during the relegation season under Southgate.

I think that Chelsea game was after we'd been thumped by Villa and the ST was thrown at Smac. No-one expected it. Certainly the game that most sprung to mind.

Remember they played the goals continuously on the big screen at Roma after they locked us in.

Knocking Liverpool out of the Carling cup when still in the championship should be up there, but I'm sure at the time we fancied our chances. Your average Boro fan hadn't been ground down by years of dross, so was probably more optimistic at that point in time.

September 26th 1970

Boro 6 QPR 2

We were 2-0 down.

Big John Hickton scored a hat trick 2 for hughy Mcamoyl and 1 for Derrick Downing.

It was my first Boro Match.

Boro 4 Newcastle 1 (1990) - Hot relegation favourites destroyed promotion chasers.

Boro 1 Leicester 2 (1988) - Promotion party put on ice by McAllister

The Basel and Steaua home games too (obviously!)

Good question OP.

Some excellent calls above ... so to add a bit of variety I'll go for the ZDS Semi-Final 1st leg away to Villa.

Boro were in what is now The Championship. Villa were top of what is now The Premiership, had won 7 matches on the bounce and their last match 7-0.

No one in the country game us a chance ... but as seasoned Boro fans we always knew to 'expect the unexpected'

One of my all time favourite away matches ... even more so after the 2nd leg that led to our first ever Wembley appearance.
