£32.50 for fish n chips......

I’ve paid £30 quid or so for a ‘fancy’ turbot dish but probably wouldn’t pay for it like this.

I like the thought of ‘incredibly expensive potoatoes’ hand cut into chips [?] How expensive are the spuds?

Link: No scraps either

To be frank if you can afford to eat at a Tom Kerridge restaurant you don’t think about the prices. You pay for the experience as much as anything.

Salt and vinegar extra no doubt as well as the ketchup? I remember when fish n chips was £1.80 in Brotton high street.

Which is kind of my point. You are not comparing “eggs with eggs” (to mix my metaphors). Eating in a TK restaurant and over the counter in Brotton High St.

OK CtC. Let me put it in a simpler way then.

You pay to watch Boro in a Championship Game £30

You go to a Champions League Final - £250

After all it’s only 22 men kicking a football about.

It's Fish and Chips.
Pizza Hut, it's a Pizza=Going Bust
Jamie Oliver, it's only Pasta=Gone Bust

Is there a pattern forming here.

There is a line though Abel (and, I guess people’s are different)
I went to Sat Bains in Nottingham recently and had a fantastic dining experience with an eye watering bill - but the cooking and creativity was out of this world.
Star at Harome, on the other hand, similarly great experience but way cheaper than Kerridge’s place would be.
Just feels a step too far for to me

Er in a word no.

Have you been to Kerridge”S restaurant Finny?

Don’t get me wrong it’s not my idea of value either but that’s because I don’t enjoy fine dining but acknowledge others love it.

I paid £32 for Roast beef on Sunday at a restaurant with a star (not at the Star) it was delicious and a roasted piece of fillet, but even then I kind of turned my nose up due to it being a Sunday lunch and its comparable to some pretty great roasts I've had for £18-£20. I'm more comfortable paying those prices if it's ala carte and not something you find in other restaurants and there is a level of skill involved in bringing the plate/flavours together.

It's a different kettle of fish (no pun intended) expecting someone to pay that for something deep fried. And with the depest respect to TK and I do respect what he's acheived with his restaurants, that can't be justifiable, even with turbot, from a price to experience value perspective.

Tom Kerridge has dome decent taste in music.

His Desert Island Discs selection included Oasis, Placebo, The National, I Am Kloot and The Rifles.

I's your OP more of a rant at yourself for choosing to do something you don't like?

Haven’t been to Kerridge’s and prob wouldn’t go. Just think he is having a laugh with this.
There are other places around with similar, and in some instances better credentials which I’d go to instead.

I’m sure he knows what he’s doing tho and people will flock to the place. Each to their own and all that.

Finny I suspect you have confused people with your opening line paying £30 for a fish dish.

Let’s face it Cod is of the same value as turbot probably pound for pound. It’s just fish after all.

Our local chippy (twice voted chippy of the year[?]) offers, amongst other things sea bass n chips (battered or baked)

First time I went in and asked for fish n chips it was - ‘cod, haddock, salmon, plaice or sea bass’
I had to phone a friend.

I don't want to experience my scran, nor do I want to look on it as an artistic extravaganza. I want to eat it, not frame it.

Just a good sized portion that tastes good and fills me up.

Horses for courses, and if you’d rather pay less for something else then fill your boots.
