Tony McMahon

I notice from the training photos on the clubs website that he's still involved with coaching the first team. I thought it was only meant to be a short term temporary thing?

He's next in line when Woody gets binned off.

One of our own, best man for the job etc.

Filled in for Robbie Keane during the last international break. Must be doing it again. Whoy go for experience when you can get a complete novice in.

He is gaining his experience, taking his badges etc but also passing on a great deal of his playing and Boro experience. A very committed personality.

Put the ball down the line or give it away then track back and make a good slide tackle?

He's probably better than the current crop of fullbacks[;)]

Jokes aside I seem to remember him taking a decent set play? Hopefully he can coach that into some of them.

We all go on about being dross defending set pieces this season but we are still yet to see any improvement on the offensive side. I see no difference from last year (5 goals[sad]).

EEEh how time flies!
Honestly thought he was being suggested as emergency cover for our faltering full backs [:D]
Captain of the FA Youth Cup winning team and that

He's 'only' 33 and has forged a good career in league 1. I'm surprised he's not got a club after being released from Oxford (by mutual consent due to distance from family).

I bet he's running around like a headless chicken trying to get a deal while pretending to be coaching[;)]

Ok Mr Expert, how do you pretend to be coaching?

Yeah because getting experience in worked a treat last time.

I find it interesting that everyone wants to slag off Tony McMahon.

As a "kid" he was potentially the best right back I'd ever seen in a Boro shirt. Sadly a series of injuries mean that he had to beef up a lot and lost his speed.

His later clubs benefited from his dead ball skills.

I also want to a kids cup final that was held over until the following season against Port Vale. McMahon came over in his car and sat in the crowd the same as me.

As the captain of that cup winning team he must have had some leadership skills.

So please don't be quite so negative there might be something to be gained and that has to be good

Nice post Rishworthian.
I also thought he was a top fullback and It was injury which stopped him playing at top level.

The trouble is we need experience not another guy who has no idea what he's doing.

Boro19 I understand what you are saying but he's bound to have some idea of what he's doing.

Can he get it across to the players is rather more fundamental. As is,is he good enough to gain their respect ?

I am sat back relax. Let them get on with it, because main thing Woodgate is not going, my main matter is with the head coach.
