RECRUITMENT BEGINS FOR MIDDLESBROUGH STREET WARDENS

Press Release
They don't just make the streets safer, they also save lives…

And now Middlesbrough Council is recruiting for new Street Wardens to join its dynamic frontline team and help strengthen communities across the town.

Middlesbrough Mayor Andy Preston has made a priority of community safety since his election in May with the introduction of new Community Enforcement Vehicles, a consultation on a Public Space Protection Order for TS1 and extra powers for Street Wardens.

Now the authority can announce it will take on an additional 23 Street Wardens.

The role involves intervening on unacceptable behaviour, supporting vulnerable people and being a visible frontline responder.

Street Wardens wear body-worn cameras, have the power to issue Fixed Penalty Notices and have also recently begun carrying naloxone kits - a drug that reverses the effects of an overdose.

By administering the drug the wardens, who are trained in first aid, have already saved the lives of five people in Middlesbrough in a short space of time.

Mr Preston said: "Our Street Wardens are fantastic, we need more and they are going to make us safer, they are going to make us feel better, they are going to protect us, they are going to keep our streets clean and they are going to save lives.

"We now have the money to start hiring so if anybody knows someone who wants to play a big role in their town and wants a decent level of pay, is willing to take a little bit of rough with the smooth but is interested in helping the community then get in touch because there are brilliant job opportunities."

At a meeting of Middlesbrough Council, the Mayor relayed a story he had been told about the Street Wardens.

He said: "Recently they were criticised by a member of the public because they were seen walking down Linthorpe Road with a guy who had been begging and was apparently homeless and someone challenged them and said ‘why are you being so cruel to this guy who is down on his luck?'

"Do you know what they were doing? They were taking him to McDonalds to get some food. So that's the kind of stuff they do."

Anyone interested in becoming a Street Warden for Middlesbrough Council can find out more about the roles at www.middlesbrough.gov.uk/jobs. Closing date is Monday, September 30, 2019 12 noon. Interviews will take place week commencing October 7, 2019.

So they make the streets safer by supporting drug addicts and giving parking tickets to people?

The scene is set for the newly appointed street wardens to save the day. Of course they'll save many lives and clean up the streets - guess who'll be on the front page not claiming credit [:D]

Ray Mallon brought in around a hundred street wardens and crime along with anti-social behaviour ended up increasing. Let's hope Preston thoroughly checks applicant CVs this time and makes sure they are legit. He obviously didn't do that for those he appointed to his executive.

Can you imagine the utter sh*t you’d have to deal with doing this job ?

It’d drive you to drink within a week.
