On This Day - 1958.
Rotherham United 1 Boro 4

A rare Thursday night league fixture for Boro and a memorable debut for 18 year old Hetton-le-Hole youngster Alan Rodgerson.

Rodgerson was brought into the side ahead of the more experienced Fitzsimmons and Scott and scored Boro's first two goals. He had to share the glory, though, with Brian Clough, who got the other two.

However, it was the Millers who struck first, after 8 minutes. Webster cut in from the right and with the Boro defence expecting a cross he drove a shot past Peter Taylor in the Boro goal.

Boro immediately responded, with Clough unlucky when his close range shot hit the keeper's legs and they only had to wait until the 10th minute to draw level. Billy Day tore down the wing and Rodgerson hammered home his cross.

It took until the 61st minute for Boro to go in front, Clough beating three men and pulling the ball back as Rodgerson arrived at speed to score.

Boro put the game to bed on 75 minutes with Clough converting a Day cross and he put the icing on the cake by adding a fourth from PeaXXXXXX's cross in the last minute.

It was the second season running that Boro had won 4-1 at Rotherham (as I think they also did in the Third Division promotion season under Bruce Rioch).
