Woody dropped a blob last night

Poor team he put out and over worked the ball with little tempo. Should have started with the stronger team to get a win that helps take pressure off...He will learn.

Plus side a 17 year old Wood started at CH and had a decent 2nd half.

McNair is looking good.
Thought Bola showed he`s decent.

Browne seems a to have a bit of a swagger, he has to earn that before he uses it.

Diksteel. A little nervous at times.

The booing at 2-0 was quite vicious, I felt sorry for Woody, but then again it is a lesson he wont forget. If it had been Karanka on the end of it he would have died, Pulis was lucky he never got the vitriol.

Lesson you can win away 10-0, it means nothing, its your home displays that the majority of fans see and they want to see them win, no matter how important - unimportant the game is.

Thats why Pulis was so disliked, poor football and home defeats.

Woody will learn.

Change...Start with Fletcher through the middle and not Britt please.

Never ever contemplate playing Gestede.

Seems a bit of a crisis with Clayton at the moment, stayed to close to the CB(might have been under orders as they were rusty and brand new)

Saturdays more important though. And having the stronger players fresh surely is more important

It is more important but I think a win last night was needed for confidence more than anything and to keep those baying for his blood off his back. Should have picked a strong side from the off to win and integrate some of the new signings to get them used to playing together.

Drew

Ticker has a point because confidence from a win sometimes is just a higher priority for the group and that’s what we’d have taken from last night

That said, at least we clawed it back to 2-2
In hindsight woody might of chosen a different stronger team but I wanted a different team last night and players getting a chance to stake a claim like Saville and Walker but seems they flopped big style

Hindsight is a wonderful thing to have.

Before the game people seemed very happy with the team.

If it was a poor selection, then we have serious problems.

3 of our new summer signings started. 2 of which (Browne/Dijksteel) were meant to solve long term problem positions.

The midfield contained Clayton (crowd favourite who can do no wrong), Saville and Tavernier (a young lad who many wanted more minutes on the pitch).

We can argue the strike force of Gestede and Walker was a mistake (Gestede for sure), but this was a league two side.

Woody was never my first choice for the job, but since his appointment, I along with many have said he needs properly backing to make it a success.

He has been dealt a shocking hand by the club. How many times has he said our squad is very thin? We signed 1 attacker when we were screaming out for 3.

Where's Brathwaite when we need him?

If you don't experiment a bit in the first round of the league cup - you never will.

Walker and Wood were played to give them some first team experience as Woody promised he would do. They really need to be playing in Div 2 week in week out, but is our squad big enough to allow that? (squad size seems set by the Chairman and Chief Executive).

It was Clayton and Walker that were dragged off at half-time after very poor displays.

We effectively played the first-half with 8 men because of Clayton, Walker and Gestede being passengers.

Clayton was by far the better of him and Saville. Saville should have been hauled off with Walker.

I don't know which game you went last night but it can't have the Boro match if you thought Clayton played well. We ended up playing with a two man midfield during the first because of Clayton.

Compare Clayton's to McNair's performance.

Should never had started Gestede.

Same with bringing him on against Brentford.

Frankly the only surprise selection last night was Clayton.

The other 10 players comprise the first team squad who desperately needed a proper game. Other than a couple of short spells coming off the bench none had played since preseason and the lack of reserve team football means no action whatsoever if you are not in the 1st eleven. Which means preseason for those players largely wasted.

Take a look at other games last night. A lot of other Championship clubs in the same boat and either dumped out the competition or scraped through by the skin of their teeth.

But in another month's time some of these players have to come in due to injuries/suspensions. That is worrying.

Saville was disappointing 1st half but he did improve in the 2nd half.

I get the win thing and confidence. Absolutely valid.

I just worry that itsa very long season and we are super thin. Injuries to Britt or fletcher and we are with gestede for weeks in the league. Don't think that's worth it.

Over 46 games with this style of play we are gonna struggle imo with tiredness. I'd be giving key players breaks whenever possible.

We also have to give youngsters and new players a chance. If not how do we know if they are good enough. If someone emerges from it it strengthens us for the rest of the season knowing someone has come in and done a job as good as a first teamer. Pushed themselves into contention.

Like when wing, fry, Gibson in previous years were given a cha ce and took it. We need a few of those to add to the squad right now.

If walker had scored 3 last night and was potentially something special (no idea, never seen him play) then giving him that chance would have solved a lack of depth in that area.

He gave the ball away far more second half including the 60mph pass to Bola from 15m away. His only tackle of the match was second half and he got a yellow.

Woody was in a no win situation with his team selection, he needed to get competitive games in to his 3 new signings, and players coming back from injury - Friend, then some fringe players - Saville, Tavernier,Gestede.

Personally I would played Fletcher through the middle instead of Gestede, his confidence is on a high and would be good to look at him as a central striker. Also would have tried an alternatove to Clayton as the holding midfield player. Clayton has been poor in the first two games and it was an opportunity to try someone else and aslo put some pressure on him.

Hopefully Clayton & Gestede have played there way out of the side, unless we get some injuries. Pair of them out of the club in the January transfer window, probably with a pay off as no other club will pay the wage we are, complete mismatch between pay & ability.

Start with a stronger team? He will learn?

The "stronger team" mostly played 3 days prior, and will also need to play again in the games following 3 days later. The games prior and after are also far, far, far more important.

You seem to insinuate that winning a meaningless cup game is better than winning away in the league? How is this better? Should we try to win all our home cup games and sacrifice the league all together.

The club has low funds and a thin squad, now is not the time to be prioritising cups. We aren't desperate for the gate receipts like a league 2 side and aren't going to win it like a prem side.

This also glosses over that we probably deserved to win at Luton, and certainly deserved to beat Brentford. We should be sat on 4-6 points now, going into the league game on Saturday fresh, and possibly out of the cup.

It's football, we've not had the run of the green in the league, a bit of bad luck and going out of a meaningless cup hurts, but it's certainly no reason for panic stations.

I feared that if we got off to a poor start results wise those who enjoy a complaint, and let's face it it is a British obsession this complaining lark, would surface with renewed fresh venom from their Summers off.

And so it has come to pass. Hope a result at Blackburn can repel them for short while.

Given we're playing a high press harum scarum style of play, and given we've got a relatively small squad it was the right decision to play the second string. We should still have enough to beat a side two divisions below us at home.

Less of the meaningless cup thing though. It's the only sodding pot we've won. [:D]

... I'll take a 10-0 Boro win at Ewood Park, in fact I'd bite your hand off for a 1-0 Boro win!
