Seems to be getting better and better in this new formation. [^]

Jury’s still out for me on him but I’m pleasantly surprised to see him keep scoring

I’m thoroughly hoping he proves me wrong because we are desperate for a decent number 9 and Britt Assombalonga is not a footballer

I think Fletcher will benefit from coaching by the likes of Keane and Woodgate. He’s started the season well and can see him being our main striker before too long.

I don’t think you can change Assombalonga and he has too many bad games.

He should be the first name on the team sheet until he has a bad game and then he should never wear the shirt again.

It shows how far we have fallen that Ashley Fletcher is now our main goal scoring threat.

Or how much he has improved, but let’s not let a players hard work cloud anyone’s judgement

Is this the Fletcher that posters said was worth £1m or £2m?

He is maturing and his confidence improving.

Interesting

This time last week we were desperate to hang on to Assombalonga and indifferent about keeping Fletcher.

I agree about his interviews.

Comes across well, and I didn't expect him to sound as he does.

Is Assombalonga actually trying - I smell a whiff of Yakubu syndrome

He made a difference last night and was trying. Fletcher was more effective though.

Can't believe he wasn't used last season and instead Pulis stubbornly played Hugill at nearly every opportunity.

Hopefully Fletcher keeps up the good work.

He couldn't lace the Yak's boots.

Been really impressed with Fletcher, both at the back end of last season and the start of this. He's a grafter, but he has something about him too. Seems a really decent lad too. Technically should be on 4 goals this season already!

Well him finding his goal scoring boots is the one bit of silver lining we have.

Ashley continues to improve. I hope he develops into a "Rashford" and also stays at the Boro. Britt has had too many chances now. There is a kernel of a reasonable team but it still needs some weeding.

Some of us were praying that some fool called Roy would come in and buy Assombolonga last week, not worried we might not keep him.
He has always been a spud.

Good luck Fletcher, I hope he keeps on improving.[^]
Christ, we need him just now.

Good to see that the "not a footballer" rhetoric seems to have gone very quiet from a few self avowed experts.

Him and McNair have been the pick of the season so far. With honorable mentions to Coulson and Howson.

Fletcher is clearly a confidence player. He is benefitting from a run in the team. He is a big lad and shows good close control and is showing he is a good ‘finisher’ too.

He is sometimes a little lightweight in a challenge but is offering something we have been lacking for a while, a forward who has good feet, has some pace, is decent in the air and can finish. He now needs to show consistency and good look to the lad as we have precious little else up front. Britt flatters to deceive and Rudy doesn’t even bother to flatter.

I remember not long ago when he was described as a 'pub player'. Now he's our number one striker! It's a funny old game Saint...
