How long does it take you to get through to your GP.

Was on hold for 25 minutes and then told that they didn't have any appointments and that I should try again tomorrow when some new ones are released.

I think even for London that's pretty bad and am thinking of changing doctors.

Or is it just normal now?

We have to go in the morning and queue from 8 o clock and you will be seen that morning it may be 9 or it could be 10.
You cannot book ahead for 4 or 5 weeks if you are really ill you have to go to the hospital! progress it's worse than when we were kids.

Can usually get through pretty quick as they have an automated call back service, but it's a 3 wk wait for a Drs appt you can usually see the Practise nurse quicker. Emergency appt are released daily and you just keep ringing until you can get one. I was once told that i could have a telephone consult "a week tomorrow" must have been a busy week.

I couldn't get an appointment for the next 10 weeks with a GP in my own practice, I could see a nurse a few weeks ahead or health assistant. My practice is part of Group of practices and I can often get an appointment 2 weeks ahead if I go to a practice that is not mine. It is getting much tougher to get appointments. Demand is increasing but supply seems to be reducing.

They are paid too much so all work part time. Add in the limited spaces available through uni and ridiculous grades required in GCSE and A level.

Like all NHS itís a crap service because it is free to all and a magnet for time wasters. GPís are the lowest rung on the ladder. I never bother with them. For minor illnesses, look up your symptoms on the internet and follow the instructions.
