Disabled Parking

MFC have publicly announced now disabled parking passes will cost £100 per season an increase of 100% from £50. The price had been £50 since 1995.

There was thread on this a few weeks, but the figures were not disclosed then.

My comment is that MFC have made this more of an issue by not increasing the price in the past and then imposing a very big increase.

If you can afford to go to the match, have a car and currently pay £50 a year parking, you can afford another £50.

What is the price for non disabled parking, out of interest?

I wonder why they haven't made the decision to make all parking the same price, regardless of disabled or not.

Pity Sainsbury`s cant stop being arsy and let fans use their redundant car park on match days too.
As for charging for people with physical disabilities, I suppose the club has the right to do what it chooses.Parking is limited. Perhaps a dedicated drop-off point would be appropriate?

According to the quote in the Gazette today, itís still 50% cheaper than standard parking charge.

Isn't Saturday lunchtime/afternoon the busiest time of the week for supermarkets? Hardly makes it a redundant car park. I imagine it would be chocker with shoppers, unless a load of football fans filled it up first so they use a rival supermarket instead.

Can hardly blame them.

Nothing against disabled supporters, but why should they pay less than anyone else. If they don't want the parking space, i'll have it.

I think fans with mobility issues should definitely get the spaces around the ground as a priority, however I do agree the cost should remain the same for everyone. I canít see why they get special treatment on prices, being disabled does not mean you earn less money, people still work and get benefits ect.

I remember a great lad called Graham Parry who has sadly passed away now but he worked in a call centre for years despite his difficulties, one being blind and was one of the most reliable guys there despite his difficulties.

If you are able bodied and park at the stadium, you are doing it out of convenience, if you park at the stadium because you have a disability, itís likely to be necessity.

I really do despair when I read some peopleís mind set. The me me me culture these days is abhorrent. If we all look after each other, society will be much better for it.

I agree with go_nads. If we all help where we can then life is much easier. The amount of extra income the club will raise through this is frighteningly small when compared to the benefit for the average disabled supporter.

What point am I missing? That MFC are making football a bit more accessible to less able bodied fans?

I agree that parking should be cheaper for disabled parking, I totally disagree though that those costs should have doubled in a season, thatís a pretty low move in my opinion.

My Dad has been trying to sort his for weeks, including four phone calls and 2 visits to the ticket office. Keeps getting told they will get back to him. He is in his 80s and worried about losing his space. Very poor service.

there's a simple answer to wether disabled people should have to pay for a parking spot in general. two disabled badges one blue one green, if your disability means you can not work and therefore likely to suffer financial hardship you have a blue badge, those with a disability but can and do work get a green badge. both can park in disabled bays for easy access, the green badge holder pays the parking charge.

"I canít see why they get special treatment on prices, being disabled does not mean you earn less money, people still work"

Maybe have a look at the employment rates of people with disabilities eh? 50% of disabled people are unemployed, which is considerably higher than the general population.

Comparing somebody who is blind with somebody with a physical disability, is like comparing a oak tree to a bull. There was a lad who sat next to me in the west stand who was significantly physically disabled, there was no chance he could work and relied on a carer taking him to the match. I'd imagine if he didn't have disabled parking there would be no chance he could even get to the game, I wouldn't give two hoots if he got that space for free.

Go-nads nails it to be honest, some people on here seem to have no idea the realities of having a serious disability.

I believe the club offer 190 disabled parking space. All these have been taking up on season deal for many years.

190 Spaces at £100 only brings in £19k.

I have highlighted in the past how the club doesn't have drop off points close entrances of stands for fans with access issues and all access roads to stadium area are closed to fans unable to pay for access to clubs car parks.

The club does offer free season/match ticket to the carers which is very good of them.

I wouldn't say that providing a free ticket is particularly "good" of the club to be honest, its pretty much enforced by the equality act as a reasonable adjustment otherwise the club would have to facilitate disabled people attending the match. It benefits the club as much as the individual and is pretty standard across all levels of football and other sporting events these days.

No mate, being disabled doesn't bring any disadvantage at all to quality of life. It's a lifestyle choice if anything.

Maybe they should be made to pay more than non disabled fans?
