BMW X3 Engines

I see BMW have stopped producing these in Birmingham and transferred production back to Germany.

Anyone know why?

Fall in Diesel demand?

Fall in general new car demand creating slack in the German production facility?

Protectionism by the German Car make to preserve jobs on home soil?

Anyone know why?

Boro boro boro: fall in demand? They are still making them?

The reason for the return to a solid EU country is obvious.

Small town

They might be still making them but they will be making them in reduced numbers.

If you have slack in one production line it makes sense to run it at capacity as that’s the only point it become a viable profit maker. It’s cheaper to close one factory or retool it that it is to run two on half capacity doing the same job.

The x3 is a high end suv that predominantly people buy with Diesel engines... the two big markets for these are Europe and China... Europe is declaring diesel is worse than the devil and China is on a downturn.

They are in the same boat as JLR who have seen a drop in China sales of over 30%

Fair point. I didn't realise they were just consolidating production .

The reason they are moving production to from Birmingham to Germany is entirely because in the event of a no deal brexit the U.K. will no longer count as part of the EU, so with South Africa also being part of the chain, the imports will no longer be below the rules of origin threshold and therefore tariffs will apply.

I thought after three years brexiters would have actually had the intelligence to look into some of these ‘project fear’ claims.

Brexiteer's aren't interesting in facts or what might happen in a no deal - it's all about their special little vote.
