Brentford - seem to know how to spot a player!

Just reading that Villa have signed one of their defenders (a right back) I think who've I've never heard of for £12M. Apparently they signed him from Charlton for 2.5M a couple of years ago.
They really seem to be able to spot players, Maupay, the other forward they got from Exeter, Mepham, Sawyers, and many more.
They must have made a fortune, yet seem to be fairly competitive every year, playing an attractive style of football.
Is this what we are aiming for, but perhaps without having to sell so many players. Be great if we got better at spotting players.

Maybe this signing players on stats only is not a bad idea

It's actually quite stunning how they buy for 1-3mil and move on unknowns for 5-6 times what they paid.

Its a fantastic business model although I guess it's frustrating for fans. They must have faith in whoever they buy though.

They have 3 forwards in Saïd Benrahma (2.5mil) Watkins (3mil) and Maupay (1.6mil). All 3 have been linked with 15-20mil fees this summer. That's stunning recruitment.

I read they were after a CM from league 1 yesterday. Think we should buy him as they've done the homework[;)]

Before we aspire to be Brentford, when was the last season that they finished above us?

They have a massive presence in the community do Brentford. I wonder if that helps scouting young talent? Obvs not players bought in, but getting the right players through the youth squad despite having more glamorous neighbours.

They’ve also just signed liability cart horse Pontus Jansson. At 28 I can’t see that he’ll have much resale value.

I don't think they have a youth set-up, they use all their resources on first team and scouting. For the cost of the youth development in such a competitive area they realized it wasn't worth it

I said this before. Instead of spending tens of millions on average players, we should've poached their recruitment team!

We don't aspire to be Brentford. We want a recruitment department that finds players like they have in the last few years.

Clearly we finished higher in the league. We also have players who cost a fortune sat on massive wages with no resale value...Hence we are skint[;)]

We paid more for Fletcher than they paid for a young/mobile front 3 now worth 50mil+.

How much we expecting back on Rudy / Fletcher / Braithwaite / Britt if we put any of them on the market?

If Fletcher plays up front next season he could get 15-20 goals. His value would then be £10m+. It only takes one good season.

Brentford are good at selling at the right point. Its a decision you make whether you try and progress and keep hold of your better players, or sell them and don't really progress.

You could argue that under karanka we could have sold our better players for a killing, the likes of friend, clayton, leadbitter, ayala, could have all easily gone for quite considerable profit. However all our fans would have done their nut if we'd done that.

Brentford have bought a fair few duffers as well, also a fair few of their big money sales have really struggled at other clubs - obviously not their problem but its having that nerve to sell when they've just had a great season and face the flack from your fans.

Last summer we sold two players who cost us around £7 million for combined fee's of £33 million. That would hold up against any business Brentford have done and one of those sales Traore the club got slagged to high hevan for letting go by some sections.
