Sorry if this has already been posted - couldnít see it on first 3 pages but Sky have said if England reach the Cricket World Cricket Final they will make it available on a terrestrial channel so all can watch it. Iím sure there will be a lot of cynical responses but good on them.

Will us sky subscribers get a refund then.[;)]

The powers that be once said that all major finals would remain free to air. That stayed almost as long as the six second goalkeeper rule.[:D]

I wonder how much extra they'll rake in through advertising revenue?

Should never of been on sky. I wonder how many kids ( the next generation of cricket fans and players) actually have any idea a World Cup is being hosted in our country?
I remember clearly as a kid growing up in the 80s the players like Botham, Gooch, Lamb, Russel, all household names.

Yes, nice gesture, but the cricket WC should be a protected free-to-air event.
The Ashes too. Fcuk the ECB.

So if you just have a normal freeview TV you will be able to watch? Which channel will it be on?

If the national team is playing any sport it should be on terrestrial TV for everyone to watch! Why should the general public have to pay to watch their country....[:(!]

National team sports being shown only on subscription TV is a big reason kids are not as engaged with the Sport as in previous years. But who cares, it's about the money

"Which channel will it be on?"

Channel 4 have apparently been in talks with Sky to show it.

Maybe I am being cynical here, but sky have already got people subscribing for the cricket, but have realised that the world cup final clashes with Wimbledon final on BBC1 and British Grand Prix (Channel 4s only live BP all year) and so realise that advertising revenue will be well down unless they can get it to a wider audience on free to air TV.

This is the most important part of that article.

"This means free-to-air broadcasters like the BBC will be given access to highlight packages, at the very least."

At the very least1

pity the country cant watch us put out the cheats on Thursday, cricket participation has dropped since it was sold to subscription. i think the big same is the t20 games are not on terrestrial tv, its a great way to get kids interested in cricket who would otherwise find even the 50 over format too long.
its all very well trying to get the best funding for your sport, but as interest drops so will the tv money.
some of the women's football team will be more recognisable to the kids than the likes of root, butler, roy etc

Fair play

Channel 4 just tweeted

We're delighted to welcome back live cricket to @Channel4! After striking a deal with @skysports, the Cricket World Cup final between England and New Zealand on Sunday 14 July will be broadcast live on Channel 4. #CWC19

Quite a convenient offer, don't you think? Channel 4 were due to show the British Grand Prix live. Now Sky have it all to themselves. No flies on Sky![;)]

Message from C4 CEO about Sunday's coverage

'Coverage starts on Channel 4 at 9am on Sunday then moves to More 4 at 1.15pm while the British Grand Prix airs on Channel 4. The cricket will then return to Channel 4 after the race has finished'

So they still will have British GP on 4

Why not put the grand prix on more 4 rather than fcuk about? Pretty sure the cricket will have 10 fold more viewers than the grand prix

Maybe not ten-fold, definitely a fair bit more though. 2.8m watched last year's Silverstone on C4. A WC cricket final with England playing has much greater appeal, but I suspect C4 probably have some contractual obligation to put the F1 on their main channel.
