Collecting Captain Cook uniform

If anyone is visiting the Great Yorkshire Show next Tuesday I will be pacing around the Enjoy Tees Valley stall promoting Captain Cook and enticing folk to take a tour from the Birthplace Museum, Marton, to Great Ayton Schoolroom and then on to Staithes and so to Whitby Cook Memorial Museum and Bark Endeavour replica.
But come over and say hello and then we can talk about voyages of exploration, science and the likes and how you can discover different worlds in Marton's birthplace museum.

Good work Rob!

Me and the Mrs walked from Roseberry Topping to the Captain Cook Monument on Easter Weekend. Once of the nicest trots we have done.

That is a lovely walk. Panoramic views all the way. Over Cook Country, you could say.

Couple of Captain Cook facts for you
1)he couldn't swim if he'd bee able to he most likely wouldn't have been killed as he could have swam away from boat
2)when his ship landed in Tahiti the locals had never seen screws and nails and they offered sailors sex with their wife's if the gave them some literally a screw for a screw 😂

When he landed at Botany Bay in his first trip to Australia he was not Captain Cook, but Lieutenant Cook.

He was a fabulous navigator and cartographer.

Another great skill was being able to work well with ordinary seaman, as well as middle class scientists and the upper ranks of the Royal Navy and of course most of the locals of wherever they went. Often under great pressures, for example trying to keep everyone pleased, but also in line.

I have a feeling he could have been a good Boro manager [;)] if he lived 200 years later.

Heine - facts ate not quite right. Sailors didnt learn to swim it is true. If you fell overboard you did not want to survive.
But he could not have escaped, he was struck from behind whilst either waving away or waving for help to his armed marines.
He visited Tahiti because an English ship had just returned and recommended it as a base to observe the Transit of Venus.

Was there a specific uniform, or was it just grey shorts that were insisted on? It's a long time ago I can't remember. I know I needed a note for long trousers though.

He never lost a man to scurvy, yet the RN was still losing them a hundred years later.

He stated that the finest Navigator and Hydrographer was Captain Bligh. Which is very likely true - his navigation after the mutiny was astounding.

"He stated that the finest Navigator and Hydrographer was Captain Bligh"

I always thought it was the other way round.
When questioned as to how he made it to safety Blight replied the he learned from the greatest ever navigator.

I may well be wrong but that was the story as I understood it to be.
