MPs reject Labour's plan to scrap NO-DEAL

Rejected by 11 votes in the Commons a couple of hours ago.

Considering the EU will not renegotiate, there's not much left but everybody out with No-Deal at Hallowe'en is there ? [xx(]

Dominic Grieve has pledged to support a vote if no confidence against his own parties government to prevent no deal.

As far as conservatives go, he's by far my current favourite . Very principled.

it's not the bandh not at all. A no deal brexit is a catastrophe. The best thing for leave would have been if this was rejected and a deal could have been negotiated. People who like, or are ambivalent to, a no deal probably don't fully get ow bad that will be.

"BMW,VW,AUDI,CITROEN,for starters Mondelez International for certain let's get on with it and see what happen's."

You've listed some manufacturers which UK will continue to to purchase.

You should spend more time focusing on which goods and services the EU will continue to want from the UK after leaving.

People do realise that if there is a no deal brexit we'll probably still want some ort of deal with the EU? No deal means we are a=effectively cutting ourselves off from our biggest and closest partners. It's sheer folly.

not so, we can set our tariffs for imports to zero if we chose to. hence making everything we import cheaper. not saying we will or should but it's an option.

The government has already said 87% of all tariffs would be set to zero in such circumstances. Unfortunately it's a two way street that would have road bumps on one side. The EU couldn't do the same without removing all worldwide import tariffs. Companies are already losing export contracts as EU companies can't take the risk of tariffs being imposed in the near future.

It would be good for consumers but not (our) manufacturers who have another to compete against cheap imports. Perhaps Boris meant what he said with his profane comment on business.

'10 Tories and 8 Labour defied their whip. It's a strange time for politics.'

I would have expected the majority of Tories to vote against this even if they do want to stop no deal.

However its very concerning that 21 labour MP's either voted against it or abstained. What the heck are they thinking? They should have the whip withdrawn given labours central policy on brexit is to stop no deal

But of course they wont, coz Corbyn is a brexiteer and labour are a joke frankly

So no, she was not protecting her constituency, at all. Not even in the slightest.

If inflicting economic uncertainty on an already fairly high unemployed area is "protecting her constituency", god knows what how she votes when she's not looking out for her constituencies interests.

Surely Bercow is now wracking his tiny brain to come up with some wheeze (either precedent or non-precedent) to outshine this Tory leadership election and take over parliament again. He's not going to let the Government come out on top.

I fancy that a bit of prorogation may be needed by King Boris before we see daylight. [:D]

Just because an MP voted against it doesn't mean they are voting for No Deal. Maybe they just believe, rightly, that by taking your fallback/baseline position off the negotiating table then you are handing all of the balance of the negotiation to the other side.

But if its patently obvious that your fall back position of 'no deal' is not one you yourself are going to actually to carry out then it kinda fails as a negotiating tactic! [:D]

Its the equivalent of holding a gun to your own head and claiming you will blow your own brains out if you dont get what you want

No deal is akin to nuclear weapons - the threat from both sides alone is a sufficient deterrent! Take it away from either side and you are screwed.

All the fannies moaning about no deal - there will always be a deal and carrying the threat of no deal ensures we get a reasonable one. Blocking no deal is pure self harm in the negotiating stakes. Letís be honest though those wanting no deal just donít want brexit full stop!

FatCat. You've clearly had your eyes closed for the last 6 months.

It wasn't the EU that kept coming back begging for an extension. TWICE.

The threat of no deal doesn't mean a damn thing. The EU have called our bluff on this twice, hence the pantomime leadership contest in motion, pretending it will be different with a new prime minister.

Wake up FFS.[:D]

Well A-Mary,not that I agree there is "a huge risk", but we eventually will be able to live our lives according to our own laws, let only the people enter our country who we think are fit to do so and stop paying one fifth of the whole of a budget to finance the 27 other countries.
That OK for starters?

They can at the moment but choose not to.

"state aid & competition laws are another"

They're good for us consumers and we are allowed to provide state aid if we choose to. We choose not to.

"as well as the bonkers carbon tax credit system for a start"

Agree with that. Companies shouldn't be allowed to buy the right to pollute. All companies should be taxed heavily for all the pollution they cause.

At last Leave voters can say what they actually voted for.

Only 35% of Leave voters (6.1m people) wanted to leave the Single Market and completely end FOM. It turns out 11.3m leave voters did not know what they were voting for.

It looks very much like a few hundred MP's and 124,000 Tory members are going to facilitate imposing the will of 6.1m people on to an electorate of 45m plus another 20odd million that couldn't vote.
