He's highly rated and would fit the bill for the path we're now trying to take.

WBA also linked with him.

this is the kind of player I have said we need to look for, players that made debuts very young tend to have serious qualities. They just need nurturing and a pathway to a first team shirt

I wonder if players that make their debut really young do so mostly due to puberty, I.e they are 16 but are as physically developed as a 20-22 year old. Not that I have any idea how good Oxford is or isnt but has he kicked on since he made his debut 4 years ago? If he was breaking into a prem team at 16 and is now being linked with a champ team Id guess not.

he might not have, or most likely he got his chance through injuries and/or a problem position, but come the summer the prem team wanted the finished article and his progress was blocked. Always the way except for the absolute world class talents. But he has got a few games in the Bundesliga over the last 2 years and is a current England U20. If that is going backwards, then we need to go backwards to go forwards.

I'm surprised he is being let go to be honest.

We love buying players from West Ham. They have made some serious money from us.

I would prefer Tom Kalas who I note is in Dubai with Clayton at moment though seems he will sign for Bristol City.

I think we are actually very short of cover at centre back. But it should really depend on the stage of development of Nathan Wood - if hes not going to be ready for a couple of years then we need cover. If hes ready in 12-18, we need to be dipping him in now.

Then again, he might be being looked at as a replacement for Aden Flint, which would be brilliant. I've a traffic cone around the corner that could be used for the same purpose.

"players that made debuts very young tend to have serious qualities."

Complete and utter tosh. It's often the exact opposite. They make their debuts so young because they were the first in their class to get pubes, then by the time everyone in their age group catches up to them physically they're averageness comes to the fore and they slowly drop down the levels.

See Micah Richards

That makes no sense in league football as they are playing against other players with pubes. So even if they have matured quicker than the players in their age group they still are competing against and need the skills to match season pros.

Totally invalid argument!

They have the physical prowess at an early age to play with men with pubes. They are given more leeway because of their inexperience. A couple of years down the line, when it becomes clear they don't have the quality and players who have physically developed later now have pubes and have considerably more ability, the early starters start to drop down the leagues.

I really didn't think I had to explain this point so specifically...

But Oxford played and is still playing at a high level against other players with Pubes, grown men. If hes competing with fully matured people already then he clearly has the ability and hasnt 'dropped down the leagues'.

Good enough for Bundesliga but not for the mighty Boro, standard!

He's made 14 league appearances in 2 seasons. Augsburg finished 4th bottom. Hardly tearing up the Bundesliga is he

Yet they still wanted to make the deal permanent.

For next to nothing by the sounds of it. Isn't that why the deal has collapsed. People were saying he's the next Bobby Moore a couple of years ago. Now he can't thrash out a deal with a lowly Bundesliga team.

Pubes.
