Will Gibson be satisfied with us finishing mid-table?

Although of course he'll be hoping his decision to appoint Woodgate turns out to be masterstroke, and we push for promotion next season, do you think he will also be satisfied if we finish mid-table?

I'd imagine Gibson will see it as a long-term plan, and will want Woodgate to push through the academy players.

Despite what some might believe, I do believe Gibson is still ambitious. I can't imagine he will be happy with the idea of us languishing in the Championship for too long.

He's taking a massive risk with this set-up though.

If we've seen the season out without spending much, we're playing good football and have the makings of a good young side he'd be daft to be anything other than happy.

It's whether the fans can handle that which is the problem.

It will never be made public, but he will have set Woodgate a minimum league position target and I'd love to know what it is.

It will be seen as a long term project. Promotion within four or five years.

All about money is my guess.

The objective will be to stay in this league and offload expensive players as soon as possible.

I'm sure there are more expert posters who can comment but I sense we're the victims of Financial Fair Play.

I think the ambition will be to stay in the league, develop young talent for sale to the highest bidder and if by any stretch we sneak a play off in the future great.

Promotion will always be publicly stated as a desire. Fans are not stupid though and without serious investment it wont happen. If SG no longer has the financial clout to do so, so be it. If he canít or wont sell to enable someone else to do so, that would be a disappointment.

We all want sporting glory, we donít want to become an Ipswich Town

"If SG no longer has the financial clout to do so, so be it"

It isn't that he hasn't the financial clout.

If he invests money it has to be within FFP rules. So he can't loan the club 20 million unless the revenues can support the loan. (As I say someone will correct me if I'm wrong).

At most we're looking at a few million. (I think 5 million).

Some of our players are on 35k a week and contracts with year or two to go. Doesn't take long to consume revenue with that kind of expense.

every managerial appointment is a risk. I'll wait until we have 25 league games under our belt and then consider other factors such as budget before I decide if it's a good decision, a bad decision, or a work in progress

Heís taking the same risk as he took with Southgate and the club still hasnít recovered from that. I just canít believe he can be so stupid yet again.

UKLL we recovered when he appointed Karanka. By your logic we still haven't recovered from not sacking Rioch after relegation, or giving Lennie a year too long.

Things went downhill after Karanka and we have struggled since then
