Now we have a manager and likely coaching staff in place, what are your expectations for the season? In terms of league position, and anything else.

Lets look back on it in May and see how our opinions have changed (if at all).

I expect us to be in and around the playoffs, probably finish between 7-10th but playing decent football.

I just hope that the fans don't expect promotion and they give Woodgate and the club time to make this transition.

I expect we'll finish around 14th-9th, playing better football than last season but getting worse results overall.

I doubt we'll have a 6 game losing streak, and I'd not even be shocked if we managed to put together a better winning streak, but I don't imagine we'll be bringing in many players and we're not inundated with talent. I'd love for Woodgate to prove me wrong, even reaching the playoffs will be a success in my eyes.

Similar Chappy.

I'd say I expect us to be in a with a shot at promotion, via the play-offs at least until April.

For that to happen it would probably mean a top half finish at worst, but having spent the season nowhere near the bottom 6.

Anything lower than that and I would fear for the following season a little, even if it might be that we could improve if its a work in progress.

Don't care about the style of football or how many goals we score. Would win extra brownie points with me if we bring a few more of the bairns through.

It took us all season before we managed to put 3 wins together that takes some doing considering the players we have . Big failure on pulis that , then to add we lost 6 in a Rowe . Absolutely major failure.

So can woodgate do better ?? Absolutely, we should still aim as high as we can and top 6 is a minimum target .

Winning fans over will be his first achievement. Letís see who comes and goes .

Same with me.

Need to wait until the window has closed then I will find this thread and post my prediction.

Because if we sign wingers and full backs and keep Randolph and play the likes of Wing, Tav, and Britt stays and bangs goals in I think we could be top 6 material.

Recruitment is the key for me this season.

I'm expecting a slow start, but to hopefully finish the season strongly (if we're patient). Top 10 at least. We have glaring weaknesses that need addressing but we still have some quality players for this level.

We must be due a statement from Gibson at some point soon surely? We're assuming this is all part of a new long term vision, but that's only from third hand sources so far.

I'd have to see the funny side if Gibson goes on the radio and says he expects Woody to smash the league, hates the Championship, wants evolution not revolution from the Pulis era, doesn't care about the style of play and that he and Woody love the long throw-ins, and that we need all the d1cks from Stockton to finally start supporting us now that Sunderland have stayed in division 3.[:D]

Impossible to say at this stage.

The coaching team isnít in place as yet, we dont know the squad make up or perceived quality.

If the squad was unchanged I would say about 10th to 14th, but it wont be so will give my view of a realistic prediction before kick off in August.

6-9th place. Few big names leave, replaced by loans, lower cost players and youth. Assombalonga goes and Fletcher gets the nod. Braithwaite goes and we recruit someone else in his stead, with gusted as backup.

I'll nail my colours to the mast and say this:

I won't call for his head unless we enter the bottom 6 in his first season.

I do expect us to challenge seriously for promotion within 3 seasons, with at least some signs of improvement by the end of the second season.

I'll also add that its a shame we don't have someone at the helm for whom promotion would have been a genuine, realistic expectation, but it wasn't to be for whatever reason.

Wow atypical, that's really precise and obviously very bold[8)]

I think with the names mentioned as coaches and the squad as is, then we would be 11th-18th next season.
The squad will churn, I have no idea how, so like Coluka and others, I will update before the season if you keep hoofing.

'You can change your opinion when we make signings/sales, but what do you expect for the season TODAY?'

Based on Today?

We have no manager as of this minute. So if we are going into the season without a manager I would have to say bottom half [;)]

Joking aside...assuming Woodgate has got the job (looks about as certain, as certain can be) and with the current squad of players I would expect a 7-12 finish.

But I'm hoping we address the lack of width we have in the squad, improve the FB department both left & right side. Sign a decent CB for this division and maybe another striker then I would have to expect us to finish in the top 6.

Appointing JW has reduced the expectation.

If it had been Jokanovic, the expectation would have been for us to storm the league.

Playoff place will be an achievement. Automatic promotion would be unbelievable.

We have enough 'pedigree' players in the squad to be able to make a decent fist of things.

Surely we have enough central midfielders to solve the middle of the pitch 'conundrum' we have been dealing with for years now. ie, Clayton & Leadbitter were solid but left us short up front.

Our newbie Coach is up against some hardened Managers. While he learns 'on the job' its possible this will cost us a few points.

10th. But season-end more positive than 2019.

Assombolonga top scorer with 12 goals.

20 Wins
12 Draws
14 Losses
61 Goals Scored
49 Goals Conceded
12 Goal Difference
72 Points

3rd Round League Cup
3rd Round FA Cup

Somewhere on par with Bristol this season 2018/19 or Middlesbrough 2011/12

My expectation for the club is that we should be serious top 2 contenders and that the play offs are the minimum requirement

In reality, with the new set up, I think we will be bang average mid table this season. As others have said it depends on the players coming in.

I dont think he will get sacked though, I think he will be given time and will get until mid season 2020/21 before anything is done even if we are terrible - Gibson is a stubborn fvcker

I expect the entertainment to be a bit better (could it really be any worse?) but results wont be as good.

In no way will Woodgate garner more points than Pulis.
It possibly may resemble Southgate's 12th in his debut Premier season which translates as 13th-15th in the Championship.

You have to be pretty bad to be relegated out the championship or you need to self destruct but I honestly expect us to finish closer to the bottom than the top under Woodgate. I just hope Gibson doesnít show loyalty for too long once he starts floundering and we struggle (and he will). Only Boro would wait nearly a month to appoint the assistant of last seasons failure who has no experience when you have three managers available who have won promotion. Itís as if Gibson has learnt nothing from the Southgate hiring who was never ready, I honestly despair and donít want the season to start. The only consolation is this hiring will probably be the end of Gibson as I think itís going to go that badly.

15th

We will be completely out of touch with promotion by Xmas and the fans will turn their back on the team and when he sticks with him you can knock another 5k off the gate.
