Artists dying in your lifetime you regret not seeing live

Got the new JJ Cale album and this occurred to me - kick myself for not having seen him when I had the chance. There are numerous others but I’d put these top of the pile:

Merle Haggard
John Lee Hooker
JJ Cale
Sean Price
Guy Clark

Any other shouts??

Bowie. I had the chance to see him around 2002, a mate had a spare ticket and the support was Dandy Warhols at Wembley Arena. Stupidly I turned it down as I was rehearsing with a band that night.

What a plonker.

I’ve seen all the bands that I’ve wanted to see barring Nirvana and Dire Straits. I know Mark Knopfler’s not dead but it’s highly unlikely they’ll ever reform.

Nina Simone. She was alive and even played a couple of gigs at Ronnie Scott's I think while I was in London. Hadn't really discovered her at the time.

I love Burt baccarach. Had tickets to see him but sold them as sky f was playing on the same day. Still haven't been to see him. Tickets are right proper expensive for him now and no one will go with me. Think I'll have to bite the bullet soon. He's getting on. Mind you used to buy Dylan tickets 15 year ago thinking he would pop his clogs soon. At least I got to see him when he charged £20 a ticket and was still decent.

If JJ Cale is John Cale who in think was in the velvet underground then I saw him by accident at some crummy festival I was at. Didn't like him at all I'm afraid.

I had a ticket to see Elliott Smith at the Royal Festival Hall shortly before his death. The gig was cancelled - can't remember what reason was given at the time, but I'm guessing he wasn't in a fit state. It was supposed to be rescheduled but then, of course, he died.

He toured the Uk about 4 years before he died and was at York, and so wished I had made the effort to see him.
The film about his final tour in the US is brilliant, for all his Alzeimers problems once on stage he was fantastic

Wished I’d seen the rat pack live. Sinatra in particular. Was at Live Aid in 1985 so saw a lot of the above all at once. Bowie, George Michael and Freddie.

Also would have loved to have seen the Doors.

George Michael would be another, didn’t realise how relevant the music was to his life (with exception of ‘Outside’ 😳) until it was too late.
