Me and the Mrs have friends who live in Vancouver island. 2 years ago we went to visit and hired a car and went on a road trip from Vancouver, through jasper, Banff etc to Calgary then looped back round.

We done it over 20 days. Incredible.

We stopped in Kelowna which I would recomend if you like wine as there’s a brilliant winery and resteraunt on top of the hills.
The mountain coaster in/near Revelstoke is a good experience but nonshakes if you miss it.
I massively recommend The Grizzly House in Banff. It’s a fondue place that serves Rattlesnake and all sorts. It was once a place for swingers and still has lots of nods towards that.
Calgary wasn’t anything special and the Olympic Park was a let down, we did get to see a dry run bobsleigh comp though.

Got loads more things to recommend but will be here all night.

OP just make sure you get unlimited mileage on your RV, if they do them and you will get charged for a one way hire if that's your plan.

Thanks for the info so far, and we've got a RV with 3000k so hopefully that will be enough! I like the sound of a winery[^]

The Rockies

In 2000 I went to Canada, visiting family who were stationed at Batus just outside Medicine Hat. The last couple of days was spent in and around Calgary and on last full day went from Calgary up to Spray lakes near Kannanaskis, then took the Road (trail) out towards Banff through the forests before heading back on the main road towards Calgary. Saw a black bear stood in the middle of the trail at one point but stopped the car and watched it from a safe enough distance till it moved, and by the time we got to where it went into the trees it had disappeared well into the undergrowth. Although only in the foothills the views of the mountains was absolutely spectacular and I will say that no photo I have seen before or since does them justice or gets close to seeing them first hand.

Some bits specific to the Rockies (haven't been to Vancouver):

-Colombia Icefields
-Jasper Skywalk
-White Water Rafting on Kicking Horse River
-Make sure you get out on a canoe at Lake Louise or Moraine Lake, preferably if you can hit a quieter time when it's more peaceful
-Hot springs at Banff/Jasper/Radium
- Make sure you drive between Banff and Jasper in clear weather so you can have good visibility on how spectacular it is.

When are you going? We booked up our campsite for the first few nights prior to arrival and then just took it each day at a time. But in July/August I believe everywhere is rammed so you'd have to be aware that getting on sites might be hard work at times.

If you have time in Vancouver take a walk around Stanley Park, visit White Rock (coastal beach town), and take a trip on the Gondola to Grouse Mountain.....amazing views of the City!! [^]

Even just walking round the City is nice, Robson Street is a cool area!
