Was this years championship really that good

For me it’s been an average year and with a bit of managerial ability and some shrewd new additions in jan and I think the league was there for the taking more so than in other years.

Look at us we have been woeful as we couldn’t buy a win at home all season and we’ve lost 6 on the spin and yet even afterall that we are still in the play off hunt.

What a wasted opportunity this has been

Yep I agree. I do think next year will be tougher both in terms of competition and financially than this was

Pre season bookies fave was stoke who have done nothing, villa struggled and when you see the likes of shef u doing so well it shows how open it has been.

But we completely fked it up sticking by a failing manager.

Worst standard of Championship in years. We've missed a massive opportunity here make no mistake of that.

I think we have this "this year was really easy, next will be much harder" every year when we don't get promoted.

The standard stays much the same, although I usually thinking its a weaker year when a team runs away with it.

One thing that seems to have changed in recent years is that newly relegated teams struggle: they're more likely to be relegated again than win automatic promotion at the first attempt, judging by recent seasons.

Anyway, the likely relegated teams are not an intimidating bunch, are they?

Last season Wolves were a fabulous team and were easily the best team in the league.

This season I don't think Norwich are the equivalent of Wolves.

This season has been the worst standard for a long time and there was a real opportunity in which Leeds/Norwich/Sheff Utd have tried to take advantage of.

Next season will certainly be tougher.

I said at the start of the season that this season the league looked weaker than usual.

Norwich and Leeds finished around mid table last year and didn't really overly invest in the summer (by Boros standards).

I think it shoes no matter where we finish we have a chance next year even without parachute payments.

I expected Stoke and WBA to be the top 2 with my predictions. The squad Stoke have and the investment means they have massively under achieved. They will have another year of parachute payments next season so may invest again.

I think its full of average sides made up of cheap players who can mix it with the bigger clubs. I do like though how anyone can beat anyone[^]

I prefer it to the prem.

It looks like it's really been a very average year.
Whoever goes up, if it's from Norwich, Leeds and Sheff Utd, will need to spend quite a bit to bring their sides up to lower Prem standard.

Boro really missed the boat after we didn't replace Traore and Bamford, otherwise we may really have been up with the front runners after our excellent start to the season.

But it's water under the bridge and we shall not have money to burn (as the media seemed to think) next season.

Let's hope it's a rebirth like the "class of '86, although finding someone with the sheer talent of a Cooper,Pally,Mogga,Parky,Pears or Slaven could be a bit of a problem. [smi]
Would look forward to seeing that platinum blonde team running out again for the first home game of the season though.

Easily the best team in a league doesnt just scrape the title.

It has definitely been a weak season at the top. I haven't seen much real quality from anyone. For us to be so poor all season and have been up there and competitive shows how weak it is. We really have missed a great opportunity this year because I think our squad is as good as any of the others. It has just had the life sucked out of it.

Fail to see your point here [rle]

I thought Cardiff were an average team last year but seemed to win a lot of games 1-0. A team like Leeds seem to have a bit more about them than Cardiff.

I think the middle of the Championship is tougher this year. For example Swansea are a decent side, but have never been above half way. There are some ambitious owners in the Championship that will always make it tough - Villa and Forest spent big.

Huddersfield and Fulham have looked very weak this year and likely Cardiff will be in the Championship next year to those that say it will be tougher.

“I think the middle of the Championship is tougher this year.”

And herein lies what makes the difference between a strong championship and a weak one.

It’s not about how good the top teams are, but how good the midrange teams are. It is the relentless grind of the championship that makes it tough: not a few teams having a bit of quality

If Boro actually bought wingers and had an attack we'd have run away with he league. But the fact is Pulis sold Bamford and Traore to replace them with McNair,Flint and Hugill [B)]
