Boro’s appeal against Daniel Ayala's red card has been successful.‬.

He is currently sitting on nine yellow cards and one more booking would earn him a two-game ban [:O]

Ayala's Red Card Overturned

According to the Premier League rules:

An accumulation of 5 yellow cards results in a one match suspension.
An accumulation of 10 yellow cards results in a two match suspension.
An accumulation of 15 yellow cards results in a three match suspension.
If a player reaches a total of 20 yellow cards for the season he/she is required to attend a special hearing at the FA to discuss their on-field behaviour.

However, there is a concept of cut-off dates for yellow cards.

The five yellow card count is “reset” on 31st December. It means a player receiving their fifth yellow card of the season on January 1 or later will not receive a ban.
The ten yellow card count is “reset” on second Sunday in April. It means a player receiving their eleventh yellow card of the season after the second Sunday of April will not receive any ban.

Q. What if a player accumulates 10 yellows before the second Sunday in April cut-off, will he receive a one game ban or two?

Ans. It will be a two game ban.

Shocking decision by the ref that cost us three points and possibly a place in the playoffs

Its all fine and well over turning Ayala's red carf but the referee got a game changing decision wrong.

v surprised when you think of one we had for Aladiere v Liverpool when the ban was increased because it was deemed a frivolous appeal and as a result meant we were scared to appeal the ridiculous Mido sending off v arsenal

So if it's not a red card, then they're saying he was in control and it wasn't excessive force. Then as he won the ball it cannot be a foul.

So basically we've been done over, massively.

In some ways it makes the desision 'worse' as they've admitted it was wrong and its cost us 3 points.

As stated one booking away from a two match ban. That's coming after tomorrow[;)]

Good point kuepper.
Always seemed unfair that ban got extended.
Can't think of that law being applied to anyone else.....but I'm probably being paranoid [:D].
Didn't that 'frivolous extension' law fade away or officially end as I haven't it being applied recently??
Isn't it amazing that Aliadiere's suspension seemed important at the time....shows that it's not just recently we have dodgy forwards[:D]

A moot point about the referee. An apology from the short sighted idiot would be welcomed but his resignation from ever refereeing us again would be best.

I never thought it was a foul on the night from my seat in the North West Corner. The sky commentator on the Championship Goals Programme stated how it was a rally good covering tackle and gasped at the red card. Alex Neil didn't think it was a foul and said it changed the whole of the game.

What happens to the inept referee though!!

"... it was as blatant as you can get..."

Plainly, it wasn't. It has to be obviously wrong for the FA to overturn the referee's decision. Not just a bit dubious but provably, demonstrably wrong.

You seriously wouldn't want to be a ref in pro football these days if that can be overturned.

I actually love Ayala, reckless at times, but solid and reads the game brilliant, fantastic in the air and attackers struggle like mad against him.

It wasn't a red card.

However, in todays game it was.

That's why he's annoyed me.

He knows he will get something against him stand him up.

That's the worst part.

Great defender, sent off what 3 times in 5 years, but critical times.

Glad it got overturned and I hope he has a storming end to the season.
However I stand by what I said on the other thread. He’s a liability, constant grappling, shirt pulling reckless tackles.
At the business end of the season were margins are tight he worries me.
Wednesday was a prime example. Hope I’m proved wrong though.

Wait a second, you're confusing someone who thinks that he should have been sent off.

He won the ball, the ref was wrong.

However, he gave the ref doubt and sadly, sadly in this climate with every chunt chucking themselves around, he's giving the ref a platform to perform.

Are the FA Saying no Red card but it was a foul and a free kick ?

Or no Red card and it shouldn't have been a free kick ?
