Currently has a 4 match ban no doubt he'll get another game for a "frivolous" appeal

Hardly frivolous - even Alex Neil said it wasn't a red.

Hopefully it'll get overturned, but with 2 feet off the ground and diving in, I will be surprised if this is overturned.

so the ref is saying it had nothing to do with the position and anywhere on the pitch that would have been a red card? absolute joke. should be overturned, but I bet it isn't.

What was Traore's tackle like against Villa and was that overturned?

Traore's tackle was entirely different.

It'll be interesting to see which group of "experts" is correct.

I thought it was harsh. Even assuming that he thought the tackle was dangerous I've seen far worse go unpunished. That said the way Ayala went in "gave the referee a decision to make".

The annoying thing is, even if he wins his appeal the damage has been done; the referee gave a bad decision which gifted them a goal. Without it we would have got a draw, maybe even the win.

But regardless, NOTHING will happen to the unaccountable referee.

Promotions and relegations and other people's jobs can pivot over decisions by referees.

Donít be fooled in to thinking the red card being overturned means the referee was wrong. He was not wrong but the powers that be are clueless so itís pot luck.

So, say they overturn it and it actually ends up being a great tackle, they actually scored from the free kick, how could we be compensated for that?

Traore's was far less of a bad tackle than Ayala's. His should never have been a red. Traore tried to block a clearance and caught the defender with his trailing leg. Ayala's challenge was at the feet of the attacker. It's only because the attacker jumped out of the way that he didn't get properly clattered.

I thought it was harsh at the time, but when I saw the replay and in slo mo I can see why he was sent off.

Will be interesting to see what happens, I think its a bit of a tough one to call, given that Boro fans are pretty much 50/50 on it.

Not sure of the need for there to be sides and gloating though. Suppose that's the norm for FMTTM?

Have we ever won an appeal with a red card?
Any can anyone remember that tackle on Traore from the Sunderland player, when Traore ended up doing a full 360 in the air

We've had at least the last 2 red cards we've appealed rescinded.
Gestede against Norwich, Traore against Sunderland.

There were a couple of things wrong with the tackle, which are down to interpretation. I don't think the issue was whether it was a standard foul, more that it was reckless/ excessive force.

If you slide that long and that quick then it's hard to justify that you're in control. If you're not in control and you wipe out the man, then it can be a red card (possible)

If you use excessive force it's a red card (this one being most likely), he totally wiped out his standing foot, sending the guy flying.

There are other reasons, but they don't really apply.

If his feet were high then it can be a red card - don't think this applies

If you go over the top of the ball it can be a red card - don't think this applies

If you don't win the ball and prevent a goal-scoring opportunity when a player is outside the box, then it's a red card - don't think this applies

The truth of the matter is that it's no longer allowable to go in to a tackle like that, whether you win the ball or not, don't get me wrong I still can't help thinking it was a great tackle but the rules of the game have changed.

You can tell by the reaction of the players and crowd. Not one Preston player appealed. Most people who were there didnít even think it was a free kick, never mind a red card. If you go on the Preston fans forums they are thanking the referee for changing the game. Even they didnít think it was a foul. Enough said.

Ayala misses the ball with his foot. He is out of control. It is a card in my opinion.

I played over 500 games in the northern league, if Ayala's tackle was a sending off offence I would have been sent off in every game I played.
