'Solid prem player' is about as much credit i could give him

Scored a few a few seasons back playing in a formation that gave him no defensive responsibility

But, XXXXXX me, 10 goals in the last 3 years

No way is he even approaching world class, embarrassing that imho

There's no chance him getting that if it wasn't a free transfer. Football is becoming crazy with the amount of money involved.

Is he a world class midfielder? Probably not. Seems strange to me as Juventus already have central midfielders of similar quality. Hes not like Ronaldo either and going to make the club some money back in sponsorships or merchandise sales.

Good agent, Juve seemed very keen for ages too, so long term target I suppose.

I don't understand it though, giving mental wages to the out of contract guys because you're saving in theory on the transfer fee. It's just destabilising. If you were Chiellini, or Matuidi, or Cristiano XXXXXX Ronaldo and you saw that you'd be thinking "I'm three times as good as Aaron Ramsey, so I deserve more cash". That they came in on a free is neither here nor there in the dressing room, it's a status and recognition of ability thing.

Felt United made the same mistake with Alexis. In fact most of them come from arsenal don't they... Funny that.

Great move for Ramsay though, how good would playing at Juve with Ronaldo be.

Interesting dressing room dynamics with his team mates knowing his salary level and unless they are on similar pay rates, which is doubtful, then Ramsay will need to be a popular guy.

With that kind of salary, where is the hunger, the motivation?

People have been saying these things since the 70s, and probably before that.
I am still more taken aback by what Championship players get for just being average than what top players get.

He's not worth 400k per week, if he was a transfer, but as he's out of contract he has lots of choice and the club have zero control over where he goes. So effectively a team with say a 80m transfer + wage budget, would happily just lump all that on wages, makes zero difference to them. In theory, the player should perform better getting more money himself, as he "should" be happier, but we all know it doesn't work like that.

He's probably a 50m player, so:

So, say over 4 years at 150k + a 50m fee =~ 81m
Or, say 4 years @ 400k =~ 83m

Roughly the same price, whether it's a conventional "buy" transfer or an out of contract transfer.

But, if they sell him after 2 years, which is probably what they're thinking:
2 years at 150k + a 50m fee and get about 20m back =~ 46m
Or, 2 years @ 400k and sell him for 20m =~ 22m

If they only keep him a couple of years and then sell him on then it's cracking business for Juventus. Problem for Juventus though, is if they want to shift him after two years (when he's 30) but Ramsay won't take a pay cut. He might only get an offer for 100k a week as a transfer or even PAYP with his injury issues. In that case staying and rotting at Juve for 2 years and leaving on a free again, will be twice as good for him as a 4 year contract on 100k (which nobody would give). Then he also gets another year or two as a free agent, unless he retires.

It is obscene. I dont blame the player though, the club is at fault.

Football is no longer a fair playing field and sporting glory is not being won, it is being bought. I know it will never happen, but for the good of the game and its integrity I would like to see salary caps and the like brought in.

We all contribute through the turnstiles and our subscriptions to TV companies in a small way. Talent should be rewarded, but this when we have child poverty and foodbank reliance etc is just obscene

Injury prone & middling Premier League player is the most accurate description of him & his play I could give him..

Said in his statement.. he left with a heavy heart ( & even heavier wallet ) obviously his need for, even more, money was more heavily lusted after than any feeling for arsenal..

TBF he also wanted to play in the more advanced frilly pretty attacking #8 role rather than risk his brittle body in midfield engine room..

The game is ruined by money.. how long before Juve are found to have cheated again & are relegated?

No joke, I know his agent and he's a legend. Proper nice guy and he's just playing the game that everyone else is. The problem with football in my opinion is that there's no regulations on agents cuts/wage caps/that sort of thing.

He's also the same guy that told me all about Pulis and how he avoids dealing with him if at all possible 'cause he's dodgy as. Haha!

I think he's better than a 'solid premier league player', he's a good, top 5 or so player, but that money is pretty obscene, for sure.

That said, I think it's obscene Alexis Sanchez, and indeed anyone is paid that money for playing football, so what do i know.

I suppose Juventus aren't paying a fee, so that's how they can justify the salary, but jesus wept. I'll be interested to see if Ramsay can bother learning a word of Italian, after his thick as mince countryman apparently can't manage any spanish after six years.

He's more than a 'middling' premier league player imo. He's a great midfielder and would start in all premier league teams apart from maybe Man City. Juve are just ridiculous though aren't they, they've got TWO XI's that could win Serie A, have been improving for the last 3 or 4 years now, and are edging towards a Champions League I reckon.

Quite honestly one of the most overrated modern day footballers ever.

His value artificially soared based on gunners biased media over-egging his ability and the public ate it up.

I have a friend who leads arsenal's negotiations on player contracts. He will know what they were competing with, I'll ask him next time I see him.
