I mean it doesnít take someone with many brain cells to work out if you give Leeds an extra, say 1500 to 2000 tickets then there will be more chance of trouble.

Most of the incidents I saw involved Boro fans. It's a crazy decision to allow a bigger allocation for a high risk fixture.

Boro chasing money, Fans chasing each other, police chasing dreams in the sky if they felt everyone out of the ground at the same time.

Head of police needs chasing - out of his job.

Cleveland police management of football matches needs a review. Sunderland/Leeds last year both very badly managed also.

Give them the ENTIRE South Stand.

Keep them in half an hour afterwards (no different to our fans treatment at St James, SOL and Anfield)

Let the bus vv@nkas filter out of the South exit and onto the coaches. The saddos who use the train can be managed better on their more precarious route.

Any Boro fan lurking around after half an hour has no excuse to be there. Tell them Man U are on the telly or something like that.

I am not a great fan of horses, they tend to fart a lot and get punched by loony Mags

I have no problem with their allocation but they should have been kept back for at least 20 minutes after full time and their route to the train station should have been more carefully managed.

We are not kept back at any ground now. It is voluntary at Sunderland. Firstly it isnt strictly legal to do. Secondly it gives opposing fans chance to organise.
What maybe should happen is our police talk to Leeds fans groups about the match plan and advise them to stay in the Riverside. That happens before we go to Sunderland.

Is it illegal to keep back away fans? Still haven't see any specific laws put up. Easier to organise for Hoolies, so instead of creating mayhem in crowds, they will be looking at the better opportunities to bounce around on their toes on some back quiet street while they are charged by horses, they must be well gutted at the Leeds fans being let out at the same time.

Millwall, yes and no. Remember they offered us a train on 60 minutes. Some people left as we were losing 2-0. That would be their get out.
Not health and safety, it is the result of away fans appealing legally that their civil liberties were infringed by being held back.

Just about every sane person could have told you that giving Leeds such a large allocation would lead to trouble but the fact the club were willing to endanger fans attending the match says everything you need to know about the club at the moment.

I disagree it's all down to their allocation...

There were a lot of police close to the ground but hardly any around the two underpasses heading to and on Cargo Fleet Rd. There was trouble flaring at multiple points along that section and no police in sight.

Ridiculous considering how many people walk in that direction

It was the poor policing that was the issue. At Elland Road you are offered a free bus back to the station supervised by the police. It was pretty much a free for all all the way to the station on Saturday.

Anyone who didn't anticipate trouble letting both sets of fans out at the same time must be living in cloud-cuckoo land.

Clearly Cleveland Police haven't learnt a jot from the Sunderland FA Cup match last season.

There were ongoing clashes on the direct route from the stadium to the railway station that day.

Here we are a year later on and it's a repeat story.

Police horses charging along at the back in addition to numerous police running towards the clashes. Looked to me like they missed a trick not been further along with the majority of the crowds.

Waiting to get out of the car park adjoining the road there were at least 20 police vans in the queue ... probably more but I couldn't see any further.

Imagine the cost of the helicopter, horses, dogs, what seemed like the entire Cleveland Police force as well as officers from Durham and North Yorkshire.

Before we know it Cleveland Police will doubtless be requesting a 10% increase in the Council tax precept to go towards the costs ... oh wait a minute!

I've spoken to people who have worked as cleaners in the away end and mentioned the Leeds fans leaving "Dirty Protests", and breaking fixtures and fittings, it doesn't matter how many fans they have in the stadium. They will want shot of them. That then leaves the problem outside the stadium, as well as our fans some of whom are no angel's.[rle]

Rob, you want to be seen in a good light by the club and Cleveland Police but this civil liberties thing should not dictate how a Category A game is handled between two clubs/fans who cant stand each other.

There may be have been a minority who complained about their civil liberties being violated at some point, but the majority were put at risk. Cleveland Police, Middlesbrough Football Club and Leeds United should have reached a mutual decision with keeping the away fans back and it should have been a standard part of the ticket purchase. The fact that an increase in away fans was approved without this baffles me.

Boro and Leeds will always kick off, whether inside or outside the ground, around the stadium, in town or the surrounding district with an arranged meet , yet even though everyone knows that, the only measure implemented was an increase in Police presence.

The club and Cleveland Police have a duty of care and they failed in that.

They offered us a train on 60 mins at Millwall but also added 'if you don't take that option you will be kept back after the game'.
Sounded opportunistic as we were 2 down.
As it happened we weren't kept back. What happened then was the Millwall fans were kept back from the station platform and we got the next two trains.

Once again highlights the utter incompetence of the people running the football club.

Why on earth would you give Leeds with their reputation and the history of this fixture an extra 1,400 ticket after bringing the kick off time forward on advise of the police?

Greed. Pure and simple. Theyíve put the safety of their supporters at risk for the sake of a few quid. Reckless decision and the person who made it should be sacked.

The police donít come out of it much better, spent more time videoing fans than actually policing them.

To not hold the fans back 15 minutes after the game was idiotic. If you make it crystal clear itís happening ahead of time it rarely leads to problems, such as Sunderland about 10 years ago when the riot police came on the terraces and stopped us using the toilets. Thereís a very clear and obvious route they could have been escorted to the train station / Spensleys.

Just an absolute shambles and entirely preventable.

They don't do that anymore at Sunderland - they have completely changed the policing tactics for Wear-Tees games and BORO fans are so thankful not to be faced with their wall of shields and penned into corners for 15 minutes. The whole atmosphere has changed.

Rob has actually nailed the point there. Years ago when we were penned in at Sunderland and blocked off at nearly every junction towards the stadium it actually made it worse.

They have changed the approach from the last few times I've been and what they've done it have a presence of Police right the way across the city, from the bridge and under the underpass / metro station which deals with the potential issue well.

All that needed to happen was to have Police lined up from the away end to the train station. Instead there were flashpoints all the way from the roundabout near the underpass and hot dog vans all the way along to the Lord Byron with hardly any police seen until we got the junction just before the Lord Byron.

Easily avoided when you look at how many Police there were, just spread them out FFS
