The search for Shackletons lost ship...

the precise co-ordinates of the Endurance sinking - 68°39'30.0" South and 52°26'30.0" West.

it should be within a couple o nautical miles from that point, however, it dropped in 3,000m of water.

it so remote a place that those seeking to find the ship are the very first people to re-visit this location since the boat went missing, in 1915. I find that quite incredible.

good chance that the boat is in good condition.

I've just been reading about this and anything to do with Shackelton really interests me. I see they are not going to take any artefacts away from the site.

Will watch how this expedition goes on.

I really hope they can raise this and bring it to restore it. After all this time, is that too much to hope for?

Very interesting and hopefully they find it[^]

That said how accurate can the lat and long position be from years ago based on basic charts and no GPS etc? You just have to look at the titanic. They looked for years in the wrong place due to incorrect last know position.

Agree though due to the cold and depth it should be in pretty decent condition.

Reading about how difficult it is for a state of the art Ice Breaker, how incredible must it have been for Shackleton and his men to get there?

On a slightly different slant, a visit to the South Pole Inn, Annascaul, near the Dingle Peninsula in Ireland is well worth a visit. This was the watering hole of Tom Crean, one of Shackleton’s trusty friends and fellow crew member and explorer. If you are in the Emerald Isle, it’s a great place to go, I stopped off on a motorcycle tour several years ago; very interesting.

Visited his grave in South Georgia. Bloomin cold and that was during South Atlantic summer. I doubt they’ll ever be able to raise the ship.

I can't see the point of looking for the ship. It was photographed breaking up, and all were rescued to tell the tale.

Considering he was an alcoholic, it could be anywhere! One of his descendants is a good friend of mine.

The search was called of yesterday.

incredibly very similar conditions to what Shackleton aced have struck again, as the underwater vessel (unmanned search sub) became trapped under the ice and has now had to be left behind under the pack-ice.

Shelf 17 the ice-layer is what the scientists were up there for, it spawned the A38 gigantic ice break-away in 2017...

who knows when the next time will be, for a crew with materials , skill and experience to have another attempt.

Taking from that link: - There will be no attempt to retrieve artefacts should the Endurance be found. The intention only is to make a 3D model of the wreck site and take photos.
