Yesterday vs Leeds. Second half just hoofing it anyway. Our squad is better than that ffs.

'long ball' stoke had 81%

Bolton Wanderers had 60%.

i cant remember a boro team so bad at passing to each other ever.

If those stats are correct I think we had the worse pass completion rate in the Division yesterday.

We are incapable of keeping possession in important phases of the game it seems.

Yep, that's rubbish. Absolutely woeful. I'd like to see the breakdown for individual players as well, because Mikel's would be, i suspect, very good. I bet Hugill and the defences are a horror show.

30% possession against a leeds team in the middle of there worst run of the season, i am all for giving a manager time to sort things out, but his tactics and substitutions are poor at home, failed to beat burton , newport, 2 wins out of 11 at home, we will have to judge him next season

Weíve been like this all season, itís the one thing I absolutely hate about how we play and Iíve raised the point time again.

None of our players take a touch or compose themselves, no matter how much space they are in itís always just a first time knock up field, it comes straight back at us time and time and time again. Itís why we never look in control of a game, itís why we always end up deep and itís why we never impose ourselves on more poor teams, because we never have the ball!

Iím convinced itís instruction as it only ever happens in our first 3rd of the pitch and those same players panic hoofing it were the same ones who played out from the back under Karanka and monk so they can do it.

the league has no stand out team this season, the top 4 concede plenty of goals, but pulis plays defensive football no matter what, which hands the initiative to the opposition weather it is sheff wed, millwall, rotherham, if somehow we did get promoted this season who would cut it in the premier league ? randolph maybe,

Itís mainly our defenders I think, great at defending but terrible composure/ in possession. Better players play it out, rather than just whacking it.

But if you are going to hit it upfield the stats will always be worse. Itís a risk v reward thing, pointless having 90% pass completion, hitting 10 sideways passes, and losing it in your own half, which loads of teams do.

Maybe Leeds' pressing style and TPs direct route football has skewed the stats?

I donít get bothered too much about possession stats because it doesnít say what you are doing with the ball. Pass accuracy however means we are giving the ball up too often for comfort. Itís a pertinent point.

Anyway hope heís got this one under discussion at Hurworth and sorting it out. He did have a go at the players in the first half of the West Brom game for profligacy in possession.

Why would anyone be surprised by this? Itís a combination of how we play, the diabolical technical ability of Flint who is possibly the worst passer Iíve seen for many years and our mindset in terms of intent and what we try and do in the game.

That must be based on the first half? As we didn't complete a pass in the second[sad]

As soon as wing and Saville went off (and Hugill to aim at) it went rapidly down hill..

We joke about the negative tactics and formations. Yet we played 20mins+ with a 8-1 formation. 5 defenders and 3 defensive CMs... No wonder it was backs to the fecking wall[V]

if you set up with 5 at the back plus an anchor man which renders it effectively a back 6, then you havent got much in terms of fluid transition from defence to attack, hence the need to just hoof

We are so narrow it defies belief, if the 'wingbacks' are in the defensive phase, we literally dont have any other option than hoof to Hugill and surround him if he can hold the ball up, its sunday league stuff and its mind numbing

Lucky for pulis it works in away games as the opposition are much more inclined to take risks and leave more space for our midfielders to exploit, home games its mind numbing

personally i am not looking forward to the rest of the home games, we will probably make qpr look like man city, and when we do play a decent fooballing side like brentford, preston i can hear pulis, " these can play so sit back keep it tight we might nick something" and end up with 30% possession again

It seems obvious to me that by keeping possession of the ball you deny the opposition the opportunity to do anything with it. What was needed yesterday to see the game out was possession of the ball. Instead we kept giving it away cheaply which eventually resulted in the goal.

For 30 minutes we struggled to put passes together at all which gave a lot of possession to Leeds. Its not just about long ball - it was quite basic stuff we stopped doing like 7 yard passes and movement. Leeds looked a bit fitter in the second half too. The Newport game and trip may not have helped of course.

Like most people attending all the home games this season I often marvel at how good several of the visiting team are at passing the ball (even those in the lower reaches). They seem to be relatively accomplished compared to us as many of our players appear to be in a constant state of panic when we have the ball. The amount of 40-60 passes we make is very worrying. The above stats seem to reflect this.
