Played 79 games for the Boro between 1982 - 1984, scoring 5 goals.
Signed by Bobby Murdoch in the summer of 82 he made his Boro debut away to Jack Charltons Sheff Weds in a 3-1 defeat, scoring his 1st Boro goal away to Charlton in a 3-2 win in November 1982, he alos scored Boro's penalty in the infamous 6-1 defeat at QPR, when we were on MOTD & played in QPR's training shirts, think this was the game Dave Shearer sat on th boards around the pitch during the game
He scored his 1st home goal against Shrewsbury in a 2-1 win
Also instrumental in our 3rd round FAC win over arsenal in 84
His final Boro game was at home to Hudersfield, the team we bought him from, in a 0-0 draw then transferred to Pompey

RIP Mick Kennedy [|)]

Sad to hear as Mick was always a very committed player.

I'll remember his as making the most violent challenge on an opponent by any boro player I've ever seen.

It was sort of a flying two footed scissor challenge which caught the opponent just above the ankles - what made it more impressive was that Mick was on a run and in total control of the ball at the time. [DFS][xx(]

Was it Mick or Glover that went in for a 50/50 against Peter Reid in a cup game against Everton at AP? Reid was known as a tough guy but absolutely bottled it [:D] Football has changed for the better but those days tackling an opponent was allowed.

Mick was a Souness type of player, but not quite as good. However, he was very effective. He was usually put up against the other teamís play-maker and his trademark was getting stuck in early doors with tackles that, even by 1980ís standards, were truly horrible. A lot of times, the opposition play-maker bottled it and was never seen in the game again.

I remember watching Mick Kennedy for Boro at his old club Huddersfield's old ground, Leeds Road. The crowd were giving him so much stick and he was typically having a battle with his opposing midfielder. The ball went out for a throw in. He picked up the ball and with a glint in his eye he fired it at close range straight into the face of the Terrier midfielder. Whack.
Kennedy was booked of course but we were falling about laughing in the away end.

Pretty sure Iíve posted this before on here so apologies if Iím repeating myself. My own recollection of Mick Kennedy:-
Committed doesnít cover it! 1983 and I was one of the volunteers to paint Ayresome Park when we were skint. Used to see players coming and going and a few of us plucked up the courage to ask Malcolm Allison for a match painters v players. We got beat 22-1 but our goal came when I spotted Kelham OíHanlon throwing to ball to Gary Hamilton and block tackled him just as he received the ball which fell to my mate to lash in the goal. We celebrate like weíd won the cup but on the way back to half way line I ran past MK who promptly punched me in the ribs and through gritted teeth said ďDonít do that again, son!Ē 😀😳
