Well done George Friend

As well as having a cracking game yesterday, he had the good luck to win the toss and the common sense to decide to kick the "wrong way".

That mid-day sun on the North goal in the first half always worries me. I remember Guzan holding one hand over his eyes to shield the sun when he was in that position. If ever a goalie needed two hands it was him!

In the 60's it wasn't a problem. Goalkeepers always had cap at the ready.

George Friends passion is quality, never dips with his enthusiasm & commitment, his level of performances sometimes drops, which is the case for any footballer, but he never hides or shirks & when he is left out for a considerable time we will miss all I've mentioned

It's annoying that when he does have an off day the usual suspects come on here with comments that he's finished

He's not finished Erimus but he is "past his best" that's for certain.

I wish every player had his commitment enthusiasm and never say die attitude. Yesterday I thought he was inconsistent, did some good things, but also gave the ball away a few times needlessly. Fry also was not at his best.

I agree he is not finished. However his levels do drop from time to time. I am not sure giving the Captaincy responsibility coupled with the intensity of his role as LB and LWB along with the fact he has no cover does not help. I guess he will play with knocks and injuries as there is no cover too, so in that respect i guess he deserves some slack when he is not on his ‘A’ game

Can never fault his attitude.
If the whole squad had his determination and dedication, we'd storm the league.

I thought he was poor yesterday though, made a lot of mistakes, but did well for Wing's goal.

Great run and pick out for the goal but overall he was poor again. You could count on one hand the good games he has had this season. I’d be very surprised if we don’t look for a first choice left back in the summer.

I must have been at a different game. I thought he had a good game yesterday. Hes definitely NOT finished. One of our best and a committed player.

George is a trier and genuinely puts his heart into the club.
He may not be Dennis Irwin or Peter Barnes but theres plenty of others Ide put George ahead of first[^]

Good ball for the goal, but that was pretty much the sum of his input. Defensively questionable, and now appears to be one of our worst players, which is sad to say when considering his input over the years.

Don’t know how anyone can knock GF. He always gives 110%, never hides and has been one of our best ever signings. He loves the club and the fans. Great guy and a real ambassador for our club and what we are about.

Funny how opinions differ, I thought he was terrible yesterday. Anyone could've crossed the ball to Wing, it was his composure and skill that created the goal. This love in we have for players such as George, Clayton, and even Dimi, perplexes me. What's important is now, not the Karanka years.

Freddie, what has Friend got to do with Karanka?

He was here under Mowbray and is now club Captain. If he were to get injured then some like you may appreciate his value to the team.

He redeemed himself with the assist after a quite poor first 45 minutes.

This just sums up why the George Friend love in irks me so much. His 110% attitude and adopted Teessider status shouldn't detract from his ACTUAL performance on the pitch.

Great guy and an excellent ambassador for the club but he's never been move than an average footballer.

Hasn't been consistently good since the play off final season. I think teams now target him as an obvious weakness, looks like he is running in treacle.

‘Looks like he’s running in treacle’ despite being the fittest player in the squad. Consistently gets up and down the line and takes on far more responsibility than technically superior players.

Coluka sums it up well "Yesterday I thought he was inconsistent, did some good things, but also gave the ball away a few times needlessly".

Saturday was a particularly polarised George performance. Some very good, but an awful lot of very bad too.
