between the subways. Boro lad got knocked out cold, I ran to find a copper as there were none anywhere near, just wondering if anyone saw the Boro lad get up? Boro lads started it and just need to grow up. So many kids around too.

Didn't see any bother on my way back to the train station. Had a drink in hit the bar too. Loads of police about they had started to kettle of streets and bits of the train station. Crowds were building a but and people were getting a bit angry about getting jammed in and not being allowed to go where they wanted but n9 real bother that was at maybe half 3

Yeah I saw it kick off with presumably 1 Leeds kid trying to take on 4 other lads between the subways. I caught the back end of it but looks like one of the 4 lads (with a beard) got the worst of it and had a XXXXXX mouth.

I presume solo kid was a Leeds fan as he had a Leeds hat on an was asking loads of people if they wanted to take Leeds scum on. Either that or he nicked one of Leeds fans hat. Hard to tell who was supporting who, as they were just shouting chit and not making much sense.

Bit stupid all in all.

Not much happened outside the ground but it kicked off further up in the thirteen car park (seemed to catch the police out) the police then struggled to separate supporters until the Lord byron where they asked leeds fans to take the route behind the pub which then resulted in confrontation down the streets in between the byron and hit the bar.

Leeds fans then started lobbing coins at boro fans through the hole in Albert Bridge then the boro fans were dispersed/charged up Albert Road as far as bar cuda by the police. That's what I saw anyhow

In the car park, where The Brassiere was. It started there. 4 police horses charged in. I don't know who started it. In front of me, I did see a bloke about 50 odd (boro) hit this lad in the back of the head. The lad turned around and was gonna lamp him till his mates dragged him back. It turned out the lad he hit was another boro fan.

The thing that makes all of the trouble seem all the more stupid. Is the likelihood that about on hour or so before the trouble the perpetrators we’re probably joining in with a minute of applause for a lad who tragically lost his life seemingly due to violence.
It didn’t really need further proof, but these people are beyond thick!

When we went under theHarold Shepherdson Bridge at the ground there was a large group of kids on top of the bridge singing 'we all hate Leeds scum.' This escalated and started a few scuffles below with the horses trying to keep all the fans apart.

Why a Bobby didn't go along and move the kids on the bridge prior to this was beyond me.

According to the gazette the police kettled groups of people around the train station, that seems crazy to me considering they did not want to keep Leeds back, where is the logic in that. I reckon groups from both sides target this match because they know they will have the right conditions for it going off and part of that is the police wanting to follow 'good practice' by not keeping away fans back. Cleveland Police need to review this because it's not working.

at Millwall the gates at the away end are shut at 75 mins and fans are held back for a good 20 mns, so it can be done, seems common sense to give time for the home fans to disperse....

At times it seems like Cleveland Police prefer to video the trouble rather than prevent it. Sheff Utd, Sun'land and Leeds all should have been kept in until the home fans have been dispersed.
Who knows..maybe they have to justify their large bill and top the banning order table?

I thought the police did a great job yesterday. 4500 away fans and one or two minor scuffles.

Saying that I thought there was supposed to be a shortage of coppers, there must have been 100 near the station alone

Exeter if you have a couple of hundred lads wanting to cause mayhem all you can do is mitigate it. The police did that well. We had a drink near the station after the game and the Leeds fans were well under control.

You can learn from previous situations. It's not easy for fans to get away from the ground, so with some away fans you have flashpoint after flashpoint on the way back into town. It's not the Police's fault that some lads don't care if they drag normal fans into dangerous situations, but the Police do need to look at the question of letting away fans out at the same time, it doesn't work for matches like yesterday

The police are not allowed to hold back fans anymore as stated above - it all stemmed from some away fans shouting out their civil liberties being abused. But also there is the thought that if you hold back away fans home trouble makers can organise and wait for them.
None of us are happy when we are held back at away grounds. Sunderland no longer hold us back they give us the option and advise we can stay back for a drink and remain in the concourse until the stadium surround is clear. That could be an option at the Riverside but how many would take that option?

Interesting point that Rob.
Never like being kept back as an away fan but some kind of 'staging' the exits seem sensible - especially grounds where you kind of meet 'head on' outside.

Better concourses with a decent pint - perhaps subsidised prices after the game might help persuade a few to stay back for a pint after????

I stayed back and used my drinks voucher. SSN was on the TVs with no sound. NW kiosks were shut but West Stand was still open. The Club don't encourage people to stay back, but generally let you stay 25 minutes after the game has finished. After 25 minutes you are asked to leave as a general rule. About 95% of fans get away straight after the finish.

Anyone with the law or whatever Cleveland Police would be breaking by keeping fans back?
I read somewhere it was a recommendation to all police forces about good practice. That's why Cleveland Police need to have a review it highlights any weaknesses in that policy, it's probably how the met can keep fans back at Millwall.
Yes it probably would mean that you would get gangs waiting away from the ground, but they would be easily identified, kettled and banned, it would also mean less regular fans getting caught up in something.

How come we get held back at Millwall then?

Police all have cameras. Best thing to do for all involved is to let them fight, film them, and then either ban or jail them. And if they can afford Stone Island they can afford to pay fines.

Bubble buses were always used, what happened to them? Are they breaking peoples rights too? The concept was you bought a ticket, your name was added the supporters bus list. Once you'd got on the bus you were then given your match ticket. It meant the police knew how every single away supporter would be attending the game and when theyd be arriving... no scuffles in town centres afterwards, no away supporters drinking in the home teams town beforehand....

A lot of away fans deliberately avoid going on the official club coaches. For a lot of away fans having a few drinks in town is part of the away day experience. Going on your clubs official coaches is by far the most convenient way of traveling away. You dont have to worry about getting lost or parking. For a lot of the leeds fans yesterday having a drink, goading our fans and causing trouble was something they enjoyed which they would not have been able to do if they had travelled on the official club coaches.

At Millwall, if you went on the train and stayed till the end, you were held for a bit then walked by the police to South Bermondsey station down a segregated, fenced off walkway.
