Flight advice Heathrow - Chicago - Toronto

Hi All

I am hoping to fly Heathrow - Chicago, Chicago - Toronto, Toronto - Chicago, Chicago - Heathrow in May (hope this makes sense).

Even though I am ending my holiday in Toronto, the above is a lot cheaper than single flights to Chicago, then Toronto then back to London.

My first question is, would I have a problem entering Canada from USA? I already have a Canadian visa (ETA) linked to my passport so assume that would suffice?

My second question is, will I have chew entering Chicago again from Toronto? I would arrive in Chicago at 11:43am and my flight from Chicago - Heathrow would be at 15:50 the same day. So plenty of time. Would I be classed as being in transit and not have to worry about customs etc? Just security?

if your going heathrow - chicago - toronto, all on one trip ie just be in transit then i see no issues.

Often you see in ticket scanning programs cheap options if prepared to make several flight transfers while making the journey.

Having driven between Canada and the USA a number of times you'll be fine, but check your hire car to make sure it's allowed.

Thanks both

However, Lizards- I will be flying, not driving.

Truck - that's interesting, do you know of any ticket splitting websites? I have only used Skyscanner so far.

Oops I don't think I have been clear.

I will spend a few days in Chicago, then several in Toronto before flying back to London (via Chicago, but just for a few hours as mentioned above).

So, flight itinerary will look like this:

2nd: London - Chicago
6th: Chicago - Toronto
12th: Toronto - Chicago, small layover in airport, Chicago - Heathrow

No problem with those flights, immigration or connection times which can be quite long in the US

I don’t know if it was a glitch but found it cheaper to book the return flight from London and the internal flight separately. For some reason adding the internal flights added hundreds extra each time I tried on different comparison sites.

Thanks Joseph.

Brewtal - thanks too, I didn't have the 'multi-city' option on, on Skyscanner, so I did look for the flights seperate. However, multi-city means I might not have to return to USA before my flight home! Thanks again.

Then obviously you won’t be just in transit going, you’ll have effectively just travelled to America then it’s a separate trip to Canada, that will be fine. Return you’ll not need to go through the whole rigmorole.

Chicago is a great place btw, I loved it. Get yourself to a blues club [^]

No mention of the US ESTA.

Are Airtransat not cheaper? I flew with them twice this year from Manchester. I know the majors are expensive.

another vote for Air Transat, just checked in May you can get return flights, Manchester to Toronto for under £400, then just grab an internal for Chicago...even cheaper from Gatwick £350 return....

I've flown to Toronto from DC with a British passport and a Canadian ETA so that'll be fine.

The flight back from Toronto to the UK via Chicago will also be fine, you've plenty of time provided there are no delays.

O Hare is a big airport (I'm actually in an Uber heading there now) but well ran so I wouldn't worry.

As mentioned previously, you said you have an ETA for Canada, but do you have an ESTA (the US equivalent) for your visit to the Windy City?

Lastly, I moved to Chicago a week ago, it seems an awesome place. Happy to help out with any local advice etc.

"I flew with them twice this year from Manchester"

Wouldn't it have been quicker, easier and cheaper to go once and do an internal flight than go there and back twice in 11 days?

With four months in between the visits to Toronto for two separate events, it wouldn’t have been cheaper, easier or cheaper.

There are two main airports in Chicago, so make sure that you don't fly into Midway when your return to the UK is from O'Hare.

Thanks all for the advice. Goalscrounger I will definitely be in touch closer to the time.

Will also get the American visa (I wasn't aware you needed one but I am now!) I have a 5 yr Canadian one from when I visited a few years ago.
