Went with the supporters club.

I seem to remember it being an early kick-off too.

We were back home to catch the highlights on ITV on the The Big Match or whatever it was called.

Sutton put on a very good show in both games. There really wasn't much on it. I think the following year they pulled off their most famous giant killing against Coventry.

It was a grassy Bank. Pallister scored at the other end from us. A header I recall. Remember queueing to get tickets for this game (before the Internet).

I remember the Holgate singing 'we love you Sutton' after we won the replay and their players going over and clapping the Boro fans. And we sent them a good luck messsge the following year before they beat Coventry.

I think the fans sung the same v Wimbledon in 1977 when we won 1-0

I was there too.

I remember asking a policewoman where the toilets were in the 'away end' and she just pointed at a big tree.

It was proper non-league - standing behind a metal rail on the pitchside and being able to talk to the goalies. It was light for the whole game so must have kicked off early.

The Boro team formed a guard of honour to applaud Wycombe Wanderers off the pitch with the Holgate chanting Wycombe after the replay in 1975. There's footage of it (together with Armstrong's goal) on Youtube, (from which it appears that the goal was at the opposite end from what I've always remembered!).

We were very lucky to get a drawer in the above game v Wycombe. A truly honest appraisal by big Jack after the match you won't see that in the game today!

Watched the game sat on a fallen tree in the away end .went in a micra hired from McKinley Hyde guisborough ...ended up with a parking ticket as the tight gets hadn't taxed it ..I'm certain their keeper got hit with a bottle thrown from holgate in the replay .

Morning Erimus.

I hope everything went ok for you earlier in the week. I was thinking about you.

There is also about 2 minutes of the Wycombe replay (mainly Spike's goal and the scenes at the end) on Youtube, which is taken from that evening's News at Ten. I'll try to find it over the weekend and post a link. It's not easy to find and I stumbled on it by accident.

It's also on an ITV 1970s goals compilation video that I bought years ago.

Now then Erimus

This game preceded the epic three ties against Everton.

I seem to recall Everton played about 4 games against Sheffield Wednesday in the days when replays were unrestricted.

By the time Everton were knocked out by Liverpool in the 5th round they had played 8 FA Cup games!!!

I was talking to Bernie last week, the three games v Everton were arguably the most gripping in our recent history.

It was Epiphany Proudfoot who turned out the lights in a desperate attempt to avoid Sunderland getting thrashed by Boro in the next round.
