Only 33k at Wembley last night for Spurs...

Assuming that the attendance includes season ticket holders, whether they attend or not, I am surprised at how low the gate was.I thought there would have been a surge in season ticket sales in anticipation of securing a seat at the new ground?

Last night it was pi$$ing it down in London, wembley is a pain in the @rse to get to if you live in the Tottenham area and the opposition were cr@p. Plus people may be saving money for the 2 home games in 3 days they have over Christmas.

Just some of the reasons why they might have been down a bit on the gate

Although I have to say attendance threads leave me baffled - so what? I mean who really cares about attendance figures?

I think the restriction is 50,000.@ironops I find attendances interesting, but each to his own.

Last 3 matches Chelsea and Inter at home and arsenal away, I would hardly call Southampton a must go to fixture.

Surprised how low the figure was I always thought Spurs had a hardcore base of around 38k fans - they are also in a area of the country that is doing well i.e North London.

How big is their new ground - 60k?

I work with a spurs season ticket holder - they have an arrangement whereby whilst they are guaranteed a seat, if they want it, they arenít obliged to actually buy the ticket if the game isnt played at new White hart lane, they can apply for a refund / credit

They sold 52,000 season tickets for the new stadium. As the poster just said, every game that isn't played there entitles them to a refund of a 19th of the price they initially paid.

"Historically lots of people. Nowadays football fans are expected to be more Partizan" - really? I'd expect it to be the other way around..

Many clubs now are more like franchises & advertise the the "match day experience"

Back in the day it seemed to be just about knowing when the next match was on..

'pain in the @rse to get to if you live in the Tottenham area'

Spurs fans come from a wide area. I would be surprised if it was even centred on Tottenham these days.

To be fair most of the season ticket holders who are not going have already paid for seats in the new ground. I am not surprised they are XXXXXXed off.

They have to buy a ticket for Wembley (despite already buying a new ground one) and claim it back[sad]

Arenít attendances down to the manager and the turgid football on display or does that only apply in certain cases ?

Great comment. But the irony will escape the disenchanted.

You must have watched an exciting young Boro side thump arsenal 5-0 in front of 15,000 or so less than a week after beating Europe's best side?

33,000 would have filled White Hart Lane. So they got what they've got for the last 20 odd all seater years.

It does make you question if they will fill the new ground if they have a few years of poor finishes.

Will they need to balance squad spend against the cost of the new stadium? It does seem to be massively expensive.
