Has anyone been (particularly this time of year)? If so, what would you recommend doing while over there?

Sopot is not too far away which is a lovely little seaside town, that never sleeps. The WW2 stuff is great, if you're interested in that.

It can be quite cold in winter though, and is much queiter.

The town was named by an Australian.

A river trip around the dock yards (take your vodka to keep you warm), I thought the Solidarity Museum was great (an I wasn't expecting it to be great) The restaurants all have outside heaters and the food is really good, as is the beer.. As has been said Sopot is close (like boro/redcar distance) but beware of the ladies of the night there, or if your into that type of thing, theres loads of ladies of the night there.. I didn't get to hel but there is a ferry.. theres plenty to do there, just depends on what you want to do.

Lots of good beers. Cat Head is a good bar with about 50 different beers.
Ive booked to go in Feb 19. 14 flights.
Ive been twice this year. Lovely place. Get a boat trip to Westerplatte. About 40 mins. This is where WWII started. A bus to Stutthoff is a must. Cost about 3 return. Stutthoff is a death camp, similar to Auschwitz. Its free to get in. Look for opening times though as it shuts quite early. Get a Neptune taxi from the airport. Very cheap and safe. You may find the return taxi costs more, depending on how you get it. TripAdviser has some good tips regarding stuff to do.

How was the craft beer hotel? Ive looked at that previously but stayed in the Raddisson Blu as it was only 55 a night. Ive booked a lovely brand new 2 bedroom apartment for my next visit in feb. Went through Airbnb and paying 150 for 3 nights, between 4 of us. Flights cost 14 and 32. I'd spend more on a night out in Yarm!!

Great city - i live about an hour away now.

Make sure you go to the Lenin Shipyards if you are into your history - the birthplace of the Solidarnosc (Solidarity) Movement, Lech Walesa and all that.

Very cold indeed in the winter - OK right now, but in another 6 weeks it will be perishing.
