Why oh why is he on the bench why not play up front with Hughill and then Hughill doesn't have run on to his own flick ons ??Rudy is a waste of skin and Braithwaite is a good player but his brain seems to engage a lot quicker than those around him.We need to get back to our A game which i am not sure we have ever got to this season.

His 1st touch is abysmal and so he can't play the role Pulis wants his striker to play. He scored goals at previous clubs that suited the way he plays (balls in behind for him to run onto, face to face with a defender rather than with his back to them). He would be better alongside another striker but we'd have to sacrifice some of the 7 defensive players in the squad to get the ball forward and create more chances.

If you put all of our strikers together....you still wouldn't make a good one....or a half decent one at that. Therein lies a significant issue in our squad. Until this is addressed - it's more of the same. We can only keep eeking out victories because of our defence for so long. It's starting to catch up with us. That's three games...Forest, Derby and Villa - outplayed in all three....barely a shot on target...one goal and that was an own goal. People can put whatever spin they want on to it - this squad of players isn't getting out of this league. We're actually doing remarkably well to be third - with the most static midfield and inept forward line we've had four years.

once appeared to be fast.. but now middling..
looks strong as an ox.. but gets brushed aside..
poor first touch..

Until we sort the midfield and creativity out any striker is going to struggle in this team. 90 mins chasing lost causes and feeding off scraps. Must be soul destroying.

"Heíll do well under Jokanovic"

You really think so? Whenever I've watched his sides they always play really good football and that includes the striker, Britt can't do that. Unless I'm missing something with Jokanovic's sides?

He's always played 1 up front at Fulham with the likes of Mitrovic and Moussa Dembele, both very good footballers. At Watford he played 2 up front but again the likes of Deeney, Vydra and Ighalo are far better footballers than Britt.

Britt belongs in a bog standard midtable team that plays 442 where he has someone up next to him. Not a side challenging for promotion, he doesn't do enough.

He is an average champ striker at best. In fact I'm being too kind. Awful touch, too slow, doesn't make good runs in behind, average finisher.

His championship goalscoring record is pretty average too.

18/19 - 17 games 5 goals
17/18 - 47 games 15 goals
16/17 - 33 games, 14 goals
15/16 - 4 games, 1 goal
14/15 - 32 games, 15 goals
11/12 - 4 games, 0 goals
TOTAL - 137 games, 50 goals

Never beaten 15 goals.

He made his championship debut in 2011, other players records since then while playing as a champo player:

Rhodes 278/134
Martin 287/86
Ince 255/78
Vydra 220/76
Grabban 160/72
Billy Sharp 192/66
Jutkewicz 224/59
Adomah 337/57
Forestieri 192/56
Danny Graham 128/54
-->BRITT 137/50
Dwight Gayle 81/45
Cameron Jerome 124/45
Hugill 124/32

If you look goals per game:
Dwight Gayle 0.56
Rhodes 0.48
Grabban 0.45
Danny Graham 0.42
Cameron Jerome 0.36
-->BRITT 0.36
Vydra 0.35
Billy Sharp 0.34
Ince 0.31
Martin 0.29
Forestieri 0.29
Jutkewicz 0.26
Hugill 0.26
Adomah 0.17

Average total goals average strike rate, get rid.Jerome, Graham, Vydra create and hold the ball up as well has having comparable scoring.

I know, impressive eh?

He started 30 championship games in 2017-2018, the other appearances were as a substitute, for varying lengths of time on the pitch. For example he came on for Bamford in the win at Birmingham in the 77th minute as we simply sat back and defended the lead.

30 league starts, 14 goals. A similar record when he was at forest. He'll consistently score goals in the championship. He's done it over a few full seasons. The way we set up currently though obviously doesn't suit him.

Assombolonga had one very good season 2013-14 at Peterborough in League 1 where he scored 33 goals in 58 matches across all competitions.
Forest gambled on that.
Since then:
2014-15 Forest 15 in 32 across all comps
2015-16 Forest 1 in 4 across all comps
2016-17 Forest 14 in 33 across all comps
He got 30 in 69 for Forest across all.
Or 30 in 65 in the Championship.
Forest got a great deal.
2017-18 Boro 15 in 47 across all comps
2018-19 Boro 5 in 17 across all comps
Or 20 in 61 in the Championship.

It is indisputable really:
Assombolonga has never had a prolific season in the Championship.
He has never been a prolific Championship striker.
He certainly isn't now.

He should leave in January enabling a better player or players to come in. It's no uses clinging on to what £15m + should have bought; it didn't.

Exactly this. It's the reason he started the season so well, having Braithwaite playing off him.

If you think back to Forest away last season, he had three chances one on one. Okay, he missed those chances and was maybe a bit too hyped up that day, but if we focused on his strengths and spotting the runs he makes, he will get into good positions and score goals.

We don't do this. Instead, we play him as a lone striker and hit the ball long to him.

He's good enough to dictate the style of play we should have. If we played consistently to his strengths i believe he'd average 1 in 2 for us over the season.

Instead Pulis asks him to be something that he isnt in the hope that he might come good as something he isnt.

You wouldnt ask/expect/want Clayton to be an attacking midfielder because his strengths lie elsewhere

I was being lazy when I wrote this the other day, not trying to cheat the figures.

So here is championship goals against minutes played.

Gayle 5744, 45 goals = 128 mins per goal
Abraham 4,591mins, 34 goals = 135mins per goal
Grabban 10964, 72 goals = 152 mins per goal
Maupay 3840mins, 25 goals = 153mins per goal
--> Britt 8490mins, 50 goals = 170mins per goal
Rhodes 18,657,, 104 goals = 179mins per goal
Vydra 11,765, 65 goals = 181 mins per goal
Graham 15,493, 71 goals = 218 mins per goal
Jerome 17,584, 80 goals =219 mins per goal
Hugill 7155, 26 goals = 275mins per goal

Of course being CF is about more than just scoring:
Jerome 27 assists
Vydra 22 assists
Graham 21 assists
Rhodes 20 assists
Grabban 14 assists
Gayle 13 assists
Maupay 11 assists
Britt 4 assists

Conclusion : Britt offers nothing but goals, and he doesn't score anywhere near high enough to be considered a top championship CF like Gayle or even Grabban. He is the best of that middling bunch, an average championship goalscorer, but he creates nothing for his team mates at all.

His championship career is like Kris Boyds, he got a goal every 169mins but did nothing else.

I read drivel on here daily and this is today's 'drivel writ large. Yesterday he came on and changed the game. I couldn't give a stuff that he is awful 'back to goal'. If he was played properly he wouldn't ever have his back to goal. Play the ball to his feet when he is facing the goal. Make the chances for him. he will miss some but he will score some. Those who are saying 'get rid' are idiots. Where is the '20 goal a season' striker who is going to join us in January? If there is one which team is going to let him go. He is a good player. His treatment by Pulis has been appalling. Pulis public criticism of him stinks including his remarks about him yesterday. I'm glad you think that my comments were nonsense, it simply validates my stance.

Every CF is taught how to play back to goal, as well as facing goal. If he can't do the back to goal bit, then he can never hold the ball up, never feed in other players, never give and go. He can never pull CBs into uncomfortable areas, rarely get between the lines.

To put it simply it's limiting when and where he can be effective and when and where midfielders can pass to him. It was fine 25 years ago when the game was less tactical, but in the modern game any half decent CB will have him in his pocket.

"Where is the '20 goal a season' striker who is going to join us in January?" - why are you talking about a 20 goal striker? Britt's best is only 15. A 15 goal striker who can trap a ball and feed others would be a better player.

Actually I don't think he is that bad with his back to goal, maybe not the best but by no means the worst. He is certainly better than Gestede for one.

The fact that he has scored 51 goals in 123 championship appearances suggests that he has picked the pocket of quite a few centre backs. To that extent you are talking twaddle.

he has picked the pocket of the poor CBs. Look at who he has scored his goals against:

Brum, Bristol C, Bolton, Hull, Sheff Wed - all poor sides, 3 midtable, 3 relegation threatened

Last year:
Burton 3, Bolton 3, QPR 1, Barnsley 1, Reading 1, Hull 1, Leeds 1, Birm 2, Derby 1, Millwall. Half of his goals against the bottom 4 teams.

He has 1 goal for us against the play-off and promotion teams, in around 16 games.

His performances against the decent teams while at Forest were only marginally better and that was before his knee injury.

Feel free to prove his scoring ability against decent defenders...

43 points in total won in these games by my calculation so a reasonable contribution.

agreed, he is good at scoring against poor championship opposition. But our ambitions should be better than that. His record against the top 6 teams last year (including play offs)

Wolves (A) 90mins 0 goals
Villa (A) 82 mins 0 goals
Fulham (A) 89 mins 0 goals
Cardiff (H) 90 mins 0 goals
Fulham (H) 27 mins 0 goals
Derby (H) 90 mins 0 goals
Villa (H) 72mins 0 goals
Cardiff (A) 28 mins 0 goals
Derby (A) 90 mins 1 goal
Wolves (H) 20 mins 0 goals
Villa (POH) 76mins 0 goals
Villa (POA) 68mins 0 goals

So 1 goal in 748 mins, or 12 hours 28 mins. That is shocking.

2237mins against the other teams, 13 goals, or 178 mins per goal.

The contrast in his goalscoring against decent players and rubbish ones is stark. 178 mins per goal (rubbish teams), 748 mins per goal (decent teams).

You get promoted by beating poorer sides.

I think we scored maybe 2 goals in total in each of the games cited in which he didn't score. Was Britt entirely to blame for that? I think not.

The fact of the matter is we would have finished nearer to relegation without his goals last season. We would certainly not have made the play-offs and would be hovering on the fringes this season without his goals this season.

we - battered the bottom sides, but didn't go up! We should complain to the EFL as we have been robbed of a rightful promotion.

Alternatively, Wolves record against top sides, those promotion 6 pointers, were decent and they went up. There record against the bottom teams was not quite as good as ours.

Wolves beat Boro twice, Derby twice, cardiff once, fulham once, villa once - they won 21 points in those 10 games, which means they only gave up 9 points.

You get promoted by winning enough points, whoever the opposition, not just poor sides.
Last time we went up we got less points per game against the bottom third of the league than we averaged overall.

Bolton W W
MK Dons W D
Charlton W L
Rotherham W L
Fulham D W
Huddersfield W W
Bristol City L L
Reading W L

Wins against the top sides are better as it directly impacts their points too. Britt doesn't contribute in those matches.

'Britt doesn't contribute in those matches.'

Nor did anyone else but blame him entirely.

I don't blame him entirely, he is part of the problem, not all of it.

It is difficult in the modern game to just be a scorer, you need more to your game. It's why no one in the prem was interested in Rhodes or Assombalonga. You need to be creative, you need to hold the ball up, you need something else. Britt doesn't have anything else.

I'm happy to predict, that he will never make it as a prem striker because of this. If he ever gets there, he will be a benchwarmer, and will never break 5 prem goals in a season. Chances are he will be sold back to the championship pretty quickly.

He will do reasonable in the championship, maybe he will have a purple patch and make 20 goals in a season, but more likely he will average 12-15.

Of course he would do better in a better team, but I think his lack of intelligent movement and his cheap loss of the ball would hold a better team back and they would drop him. He has a history of being dropped at this level by several managers.

I didn't blame him entirely emerson, but it is a fact that he doesn't score in matches against strong clubs.

Boromart[^]

It was still a great goal on saturday and lifted an otherwise gloomy day.

Looking at Boromart's post relating to who he has scored against this season he seems to have missed Saturday's goal or already forgotten about it.

It simply strengthens his argument I'd have thought?
Another Assombolonga goal against weaker opposition?

I think this is why were struggling to score goals, he may well be the best we have but he's like Andy Cole in the sense he needs 4 or 5 chances to score. Also I think he needs to play up top with someone like hugill... You could see on Saturday small glimpses of hugill knocking the ball on for him and getting in behind the defence. Braithwaite does not want to be here regardless of what he says on social media - actions speak louder than words and he just hasn't been interested

in spite of not rating him, I would pick him above Braithwaite.

Maybe played on wide left cutting in, it may work short term as a patched up tactic. It is where he scored his goal from and he will get a little less attention out wide.

I fancy his chances more 1 vs 1 against a fullback, than 2 vs 1 in CF.

this makes terrible viewing and backs me up further, you simply shouldn't miss 17 chances this simple in 18 months. I would say two of those he isn't favourite to score. The rest, just wow...
