Gordon Strachan

Former Celtic boss Gordon Strachan is among the favourites to replace Mark Hughes at Southampton if the Welshman gets sacked.

The pressure has cranked up after a 6-1 thumping at the hands of Manchester City to take their winless run to seven matches and bookies are now taking bets on who will replace him at Saints.

Strachan is popular with Saints fans after leading the club to the FA Cup Final and a place in Europe when he was previously in charge at the club between 2001 and 2004.

There's nobody in football that I despise more than that clown, his name still makes me feel sick.

Lesson No 1 of why Scottish teams would finish nowhere in the Premiership, players from their top two teams weren't even good enough for mid table championship.

Took us 3.5 seasons to recover after him, looking back Mogga and Karanka did one hell of a job picking up the pieces.

Poor saints.

May as well say goodbye to the Prem now if they're going to employ Strachan.

By a country mile the worst manager we've had

But in contrast, not the worst manager Southampton have ever had, in fact, pretty successful in comparison to the last 25 years.

Whilst he didn't do very well in the year he was here, he didn't exactly inherit a squad of world beaters did he?

I don't understand the hatred TBH. He tried something that, at the time, plenty of fans were optimistic about. Yes, he got it wrong bringing in all the Scottish players who it transpired weren't on the level we needed and were overpriced but he did his best and it didn't work out. It happens.[^]

Failure on the pitch was one element but his contempt for the fans was another. Appalling time for the fans when he was in charge.

Strachan just used to sit on the bench clueless as to what to do when he managed us. Canít see why Southampton fans would want him.

Strachan was literally Mary Poppins to the Boro fans compared to karanka who openly slated us. People have very short memories.

Have to say that Strachan was a total disaster at Boro and set us back 3 years as a club. Signings were a joke, especially the Jocks, with the exception of Barry Robson.

Style of play was mind numbing and he really left a poisoned chalice for Mogga.

He did go up in my estimation when he resigned rather then receive the boot and purposely did so thereby avoiding the club having to pay him out.

To that end I have him down as a poor manager but a person of high integrity.

SPL will club managers will be happy with the influx of cash he will bring in buying dross players at inflated prices.

He is already on the look out for the next Lee Miller or Kevin Thomson[;)]

Iím with you nosmo-king, especially Kris Boyd, especially Boyd, I remember watching sky sports & running along the bottom Kris Boyd hadcsigned for Middlesbrough, I was buzzing I honestly thought he was bring his goals to the Riverside but it turned out the opposite, hindsight is a great think, there not one poster on here who thought Kris Boyd would be an absolute failure, even Thompson TBH
You canít blame them been a failure at Strachans door

The signing of miller for 500k with 6 months left on his contract seemed the strangest to me. It was just like a cash injection for Aberdeen.

He wasnít worth 500k with 6 years on his contract never mind 6 months

When we signed Kris Boyd, he was the most prolific striker in SPL history, at a time when Henrik Larsson had recently moved to and competently played for Man Utd (when they were still awesome).

We signed him on a free, on wages that would have been a fraction of Mido's.

At the time, there was absolutely zero opposition to this signing from anyone connected with the club.

Yes it went pear shaped and you could argue that Strachan has to take the rap for it, but I don't really understand why people try to make out like they knew he was cr@p and not good enough for the Championship when we signed him. We didn't know that, no one did.

Strachan amongst the favourites? Since when has 16-1 been "a favourite" He's about 8 down on the list too. And that's probably on a par with all the other names that pop up who haven't a realistic chance.

"contempt for the fan"?

Where does that come from? Contempt for the press I'd accept but he was never (to my recollection) rude about or to the fans, the team, the town or the club. Of course if you view signing a player who failed as "contemptuous" then you have more need of a dictionary than anything else.

Strachan gambled on about 8 Scottish Signings and all proved costly or just wrong, with the exception of Barry Robson. When it went wrong he talked in riddles. The club was also scarred from a poor relegation in 2009.

Strachan took over a decent team and transformed it into a pile of Scottish dross.

I cannot believe that any club will give that clown a job, ever! The best he can hope for is a pundits job, and even then he needs sub-titles.

(I don't like him.)
