This day 1985 - Bernie Slaven
On the 12th October, Bernie made his Boro debut in a 1-0 defeat at Leeds, Peter Lorimer scoring the only goal of the game with a 1st half penalty to secure the points for Leeds, leaving Boro struggling at the wrong end of the 2nd divison.
Boro's record so far read, played 11, won 2, drew 4, lost 6, goals scored 4, conceded 11

We hadn't scored more than one goal in any one game so far that season

Has the late, great Willie Maddren secured a gem or not, time proved he had, one of the bargains in the history of our football club

Boro team v Leeds
Pears, Laws, Heard, McAndrew, Mowbray, Nattrass, Hamilton, O'Riordan, Slaven, Stephens, Beagle, sub, Currie

Attendance: 14,095

This day 1985 - Bernie Slaven

Took my 10 year old brother to his first away game that day, remember there being protests' outside the ground prior to kick off due to the sacking of Eddie Gray days before the game.
