Mixed blessing?

There's an interesting article about Doug Ellis in the Times today which suggests that one of his great strengths was that he took decisions. If something wasn't going well he didn't wait for it to get worse, he changed it.

I've always considered Steve Gibson's loyalty and stability to be one of Boro's great strengths. Have there, in fact, been times when it's been a mixed blessing?

If so, what would you have changed more quickly?

You don't remember thevsouthgate relegation season or the Strachan reign then

Gibson is a great chairman but theres been many occasions where you had to question his judgement.

You could the Agnew era in there as well.

That's the point of my OP.

Having said that, the Strachan era lasted less than a year and (controversial opinion warning) in my view Southgate did a better job than he gets credit for.

Ellis was often criticized at the time for firing too many managers and not giving them enough time. So it's probably a mixed bag like all chairmen, got some decisions right, and some wrong. You can argue making decisions is a strength, but standing by your appointment and giving them time requires strength also.

I would give Gareth another go I think we were onto something good that season

Southgate and Karanka held on to when it was clear they weren't up to what was required at the time. Giving the job to Agnew.

"I would give Gareth another go I think we were onto something good that season "

What made you think that? The 5-0 defeat at home to a true promotion contender?

The 0-5 defeat after we'd won 5 of our previous six games?
