My dad's presently in there for a few days rest, just to get him back on his feet, when I was there a nurse showed me around, what is available in the hospice to patients & visitors, truly amazing place, it really caters for everything, every need

How do these places run, when after receiving a grant & NHS funding they still need to raise £6,000 a day to operate

Generous funding, charity events & lottery are a lifeline to these amazing places

Many, many caring volunteers out there, thank you & well done to each & everyone of you

Not a sympathy vote at all, my dad will be out & fingers crossed I can take him to a Boro game soon, just wanted to praise the place, TBH, I can't praise it, or the staff enough

Couldnít agree more, my dad sadly passed away there in 2010. For the short time he was in the hospice, the end of life care he received was fantastic. The nurses and doctors must face such tremendous adversity every day but maintain a friendly nature and everything is done with a sympathetic smile.

I raised £1300 through kind donations from people whilst doing the GNR and I felt like Iíd given just a little back. My mam volunteers there and meets amazing people everytime sheís at the place.

Any events or opportunities anyone has to do a little bit are priceless for the place. Canít speak highly enough 👍🏻

The work they do should never be underestimated.

All of these types of places should be fully funded by the state imo.

Life is priceless.

I use to volunteer at the 'For get me not' children's bereavement service at Teesside Hospice. One of the best jobs I have ever had.

I really felt I was doing something worth while.

My mother died their in early 2006. I flew over from the USA the week before it happened and it was an amazing place . Very caring and understanding. I still donate £ to the place but should probably give more it seems like you can never give enough though as the work they do can never be repaid.

The hospice are holding an event, 'Teesside Brew Fest' at the Georgian Theatre today and tomorrow. I think tickets are available on their website...

My name it does not matter
It is three years since I died
Cancer cursed, my spirit running low
This is no idle chatter,
Coming from the other side
There are angels here amongst you,
Don't you know?

I hear them softly calling, merciful angels
Helping the helpless with unbearable loads
I spent my last days with them, angels of mercy
At the hospice of love on Sunshine Roads.

For the children deep devotion
To bear away their pain
The love and care all there
When hope is gone
The giving goes on lasting
So the friendships made remain
And they save their tears for home
When day is done.

I hear them softly calling, merciful angels
Helping the helpless with unbearable loads
I spent my last days with them, angels of mercy
At the hospice of love on Sunshine Roads.

They're calling for your help now
Is there nothing you can do
For, just like me and you, these angels die
Can you spare some time or money
To aid these sainted few,
As they pledge their hearts
Before each last goodbye

I hear them softly calling, merciful angels
Helping the helpless with unbearable loads
I spent my last days with them, angels of mercy
At the hospice of love on Sunshine Roads.

This is an allegoric and generic tribute to all hospice workers.

Cannot speak highly enough of Teesside Hospice.
My ex-wife has worked there in a nursing capacity since the day it opened in the early 90's and is still there - i have seen at first hand the environment and the care that they give - and my Dad died in there in 2006.
A truly wonderful organisation staffed by exceptional people.

Cannot speak highly enough of the place, My gran spent her last days there and the staff and facilities are incredible. Full respect to anyone working with them in any capacity, takes strong minds.

Just took a look through their filings and they have an income of 4.6m and costs of 4.3m, its largely through donations, fundraising, legacy funds (wills) and some small investments.

Interesting that around 98% Of staff and customers recommend it as a place for friends or family of they needed care, but only 75% recommend it as a good place to work. wonder what's peeved the 25% off.

They've got a wholly owned subsidiary which generates commercial income for them, with 12 charity shops & the teesside hospice lottery. They get around 400k a year left to them in wills (although in 2014/15 nearly 3/4 of a million).

Sounds like they're doing good work to keep things going and expanding.

I might be wrong on this now, but im reasonably certain that staff salaries were covered by the NHS but all other costs had to be met by fundraising activities and donations.
