Could be going to the wall - 200 stores and around 2500 jobs
2 days ago it was worth around £400m.
Someone has been a bit naughty - (financial irregularities)

Love their custard slices (or millefeuille as they call them)

Bit of an ‘eejit’ moment from me that. Neighbour in France came over - found one online and ordered it for me at 30 euros - all lovely.
At the airport the guy from the hire car company did the walk around ..........and thanked me for replacing the hubcap which they had clearly marked as missing on my original paperwork [cr]

Too many freebies if you ask me. Also, another nail in Debenham's coffin, as some of their branches have a PV, and now they'll have a vacant corner.

Patisserie Valerie 2016 boss Luke Johnson "brexit will be brilliant for UK business"

Patisserie Valerie 2018 presented a winding up order for tax evasion.

What is it with brexiteers and tax?

“We must dismantle unnecessary EU regulations. We must redouble our efforts as a nation to become more open for business than ever – a low tax, flexible economy with a well trained workforce, rule of law, strong property rights and decent infrastructure."

It does sound like Johnson had no knowledge of these financial issues which have led to the winding up order -(we will soon find out).

Maybe, but you can't get a lower tax rate than not paying it.

The retail restaurant chain sector is of course notoriously difficult to maintain profitability especially if you expand too quickly. You only have to ask Jamie Oliver and Raymond Blanc that.

Chris Marsh the suspended FD of PV was previously FD of Fishworks, yet another chain that expanded too quickly and went into administration. Too much debt to service.

I think personally the next one to go will be Pizza Express. My local PE was completely empty last Friday night when I walked past I cant work out how it still survives. There could be carnage in January after the Christmas season.

This story is pretty outstanding:

Directors unaware for the last 4 weeks that the company is under a winding up order from HMRC

Independent Auditors recently signed off the accounts as true and fair.

Share price has dropped from 450p to zero in a day.

Shows what a myth it is that Directors deserve salaries of £500k plus a year because of their special abilities. They are a bit brighter than the average person, but don't have special powers.

Seems a fairly zealous analogy to make based on one company. More like an anecdote than evidence.

Never seen the hype with this chain, tried a few things in the boro and York ones but found them fairly bland and they weren’t cheap.

I'm all for nice artisanal products, love getting things in shops abroad; the trouble with this chain its more fancy than Cooplands, but not as nice, yet 4x the price or beyond. 3 portions of cake for £10 is fairly steep when the cake isn't that great.

For the first time I went into a Costa Coffe with the Grandaughter. 1 small coffee(not as good as instant) 1 smoothie small 1 tuna bake 1chocolate brownie, almost £14[xx(]

I looked around at all the milly bozos sat with 1 coffee, said it all really.

You could open a cafe called La spend it here dopey and you lot would fill it.

Even better TT
You usually have to queue at Costa to get served for about 10 mins for the privilege of getting ripped off.
It’s a lifestyle choice [;)]

I was trying to make a point that in general directors pay in many large companies is not providing good value of for money any more. It has risen much higher than inflation and much higher than other employees, but their abilities as Directors have not risen to match.

If their abilities across the board were rising situations like PV would not be occurring. There is also problems occurring more and more with auditors who seem to make more and more mistakes (possibly these "mistakes" occur to please the Directors who pay their fees?).

Another recent example of wasted money was at Millennium and Copthorne hotels where the CEO left after 3 months work. She was given £1m in compensation.
