Brilliant place Sri Lanka, went in 2016 for 10 days.

Spent majority of the time on the south coast but did venture up to Kandy and Dambulla to see the cave temples etc.

Don't expect to get anywhere in a hurry! I think the only motorway is the one that passes by Colombo, otherwise you're on single lane roads crowded with impatient local bus drivers and tuk-tuk's cutting you up every 30 seconds.

Im going for 2.5 weeks.

Planning on a few days in Colombo, train to Kandy to catch a couple of days of cricket.....train to Ella for a few days....then down to the south coast for a week on the beach?

Can anywhere recommend the best beach resorts?

At the moment my favorite looking one in Unawatuna I think but should have time to stop in 2 or 3 on the way back up to Colombo.

Going out for the Colombo test and another week sightseeing with another Boro lad.

3 days to the north east of the island and then 3 days laying in a beach near Galle.

Not looking forward to the flight mind, 12 hours from New York to Dubai and then another 5 hours to Colombo...

Bugle their cricket board have said we don't have to pay the (outlandish but cheaper than over here) prices as they were corporate seats.
Apparently we can buy any tickets available but we'll see.

The Sri Lankanís pay diddly squat. My son was there for 6 months and, because of that, paid resident status entrance fees the last time England played.

Just wondering - whether, if you befriend a local tuktuk driver, there is a deal to be done [;)]

Galle is brilliant... lovely city, was offered a house to buy there.. in the old town, wish I'd bought it now... We went year after tsunami, in the square next to the cricket ground may people were killed. Ian Botham is a god there, as he organised resources to get the cricket ground up and running again and got much needed aid resources into the town..
Enjoy

complete myth about tickets prices. I went out on the last tour, and also when the West Indies played there - you can pick up tickets for a couple of quid, easily.

Has anyone traveled from Ella to the south coast?

There are no trains so im guessing bus or taxi?

Is it an easy enough journey, or better to get the train back to Colombo and then down to Galle?

Actually someone I know was in Sri Lanka last week.

She travelled from the ayurveda resorts to Colombo.

There are definitely trains in Sri Lanka. She rode them, but they can get extremely busy and they don't have doors, so you see people almost hanging off the sides as the thing hurtles along.

She also travelled by bus/coach. But it took about 5 hours, as it is slow and winding. So you might struggle if you get car sick.

It is especially from here. Got a flight direct with Virgin (£540) and a hotel for 7 nights in Bridgetown ( Courtyard Marriott). Just doing first test as Antigua makes it too pricey

As beautiful a country as it may be, anywhere that has tarantulas the size of a human face, snakes that will kill you within 20 mins, crocs that wander around as they please, gangs of humans searching for human organs to traffic. Oh, not forgetting Rabies, Dengue fever and Malaria, sounds lovely, what could possibly go wrong [:O]

Saw leopard with cubs drinking in a pond in Wilpattu - it was just wonderful sat there watching them for ages. Only two jeeps there - in Yala there would have been 20 or so.
