Plenty of this, you could cut out America and paste UK, albeit with some different societal problems. The concentration of wealth and political interests....

It is not about one generation blaming another, or getting everyone to blame the poor/unemployed or disadvantaged.

It is the fact the we are ruled by a Corpocracy, where large corporations call the shots. Decide what taxes to pay and in which country to pay them.

We need Government by the people for the people.

What's that supposed to even mean?. Which people for what people?.

All people are different.

How hard did you graft Ticker?

As a millennial in 2013 I worked every single day for over 6 months (was nearly 200 days in a row).

Then did the same in 2014, and bought my first house in August 2014.

Always brings a smile to my face when I hear people say stuff like “I’m tired, I’ve worked 6 days this week”.

Went to see my Mam at one point during one of those ‘grafter’ periods - she burst out crying once she answered the door as I’d lost so much weight.

Is that a sufficent level of ‘graft’?

Part time work are you, good if you can get it[pa]
Did 7 days a week 12 hours a day for Otto Simon Carves for 8 months, they let me start later on a Saturday and Tuesday when there was a night match.

Stayed under water longer than you've worked Heam. 2013 I bet your lass put flumps in your bait box and cut the crust off your bread. Millys are soft as a monks knob.

Fair play, it was full time, admittedly wasn’t 12 hours.

The boomers had better music, I'll give them that. But they were the consumers of the 1970's-polyester everything in brown and orange, Oxford bags, artic roll, Cresta pop, Brentford Nylons, vulgar interior furnishings, cars the colour of snot, Vesta curry. They had no taste. They gave us Margaret Thatcher, so my own opportunity to "graft" on Teesside- like from my great-grandfather onwards when he came for the iron works in the 1890s- was taken away. So now I graft somewhere else.
They have had the highest standards of living in human history, got to retire in their '50s with their copper-bottomed occupational pensions and ensured non of the snowflakes could buy a house.
Maybe Brexit will toughen the snowflakes up a bit, cos it's them- and not the Boomers who voted for it- who are going to have to pick the bones out, whether the sunlight uplands are what they are cracked up to be or not.

Why do Millys moan about not buying a house?

If you didnt buy a 30k car, a 1k phone, spend £400 a week on takeaways, 35k holidays, roam around the world for 1 year.

And any way all my kids bought houses, just by working and saving.

Boomers is a US concept and the linked conversation shows differences to UK politics.

The bigger issue that has affected those born from the 80s onwards is the way neoliberalism has determined that the general population should be different for the ruling classes (financial). This has nothing to do with 'boomers' versus 'snowflakes'.

'Boomers' didn't deliver Brexit. More 'Boomers' voted remain than younger voters. Younger voters not going out to vote was the problem.

Optimistically, the last GE showed younger voters can take control of their lives by making the right political choices rather than just blame 'Boomers'.

There is a lot of Millys who want to only do an office job for 37.5 hours, you wont earn anything doing that. You could be in the middle of the sea somewhere earning but living away most of the time.

Millys should learn Trade skills and go where the money is or do houses up to flog.

As a millennial who is fortunate enough to earn a very good living I see through your nonsense.

Fact is the boomers have had every opportunity from the generation before them and squandered it so much that they have left it all for gen x'ers and millennials to clean up.

So they didn't have boomers?

Nothing to do with this phony generation war. Neoliberalism was adopted by the USA and UK, but most European countries baulked at it with social policies.

Thatcher wasn't a boomer.

"Thatcher wasn't a boomer"

She didn't need to be personally - the article linked in the OP is saying that the 80s and 90s were the sweet spot for the baby boomer generation controlling who would be elected. The previous generation having died off, and younger people as always not voting in high enough numbers.

So even if Thatcher was born prewar it's saying she was elected by and governed on behalf of baby boomers. And the same with the USA.

The article is a US article and the only link between the US and UK was that Thatcher and Reagan were proponents of neoliberalism. If it hadn't been for the Falklands, she would have disappeared into obscurity and we would have a fairer society today.

"There is a lot of Millys who want to only do an office job for 37.5 hours, you wont earn anything doing that. You could be in the middle of the sea somewhere earning but living away most of the time."

What a weird view of the world. You can earn plenty working in an office and it's got to be far more preferable to go home to the family every day than live in the middle of the sea.

It is a valid point that 'boomers' voted Thatcher but two points: It was the Tories 'turn'. No one understood what Thatcher stood for (probably she didn't until Reagan got involved). Secondly, before anyone understood it, the Falklands intervened.

Then the 80s/90s city slickers came along with totally different values to what boomers were brought up with. They were really spoilt children of the boomers.

Bear66, what do you mean by city slickers of the 80s/90s?

Do you mean teenagers who grew up in the city during those years? They would have been GenX.

Or are you referring to the businessmen and women in the cities during the 80s/90s. Because they were the baby boomers still.

Also when you say the spoilt children of the boomers, are you referring to genX and the millennials?
As plenty of millennials have boomers as parents.
